My teenage daughter and one of her best friends were planning a trip with their Girl Scout group. My wife didn't like the idea very much because it was for a vacation trip, not for Girl Scout camp, and it was much more expensive than what we were willing to pay. Every day we would have a family discussion, where we would present our different arguments and never reach a conclusion. At some point, I had an idea and told my daughter that she could go on that trip--if she paid for it. She didn't say a thing and only gave me that stare that only happens between daughters and their daddies, and before she could come up with a counteroffer, I suggested that I'd contribute a dollar for every dollar she produced, so that she only had to come up with one half of the total cost for the trip.
