User-defined Equipment Costing Features and Functions
User Defined Equipment Costing: In many instances equipment costs may represent one of the largest cost elements. There are several ways these equipment costs can be allocated to a job. The most important element is that the system allows users to track each piece of equipment it owns or leases. This is not really like a Fixed Assets module, unless that module allows the user to track the operating costs of each piece of equipment or assign standard operating costs. As a piece of equipment is placed on a job, users must be able to assign it to the job from within the system. At that point the user should have the ability to either assign a standard cost per hour for each hour the machine is being used, or a standard cost per day regardless of how long the equipment is used each day. That standard may include or not include maintenance. An alternative approach would be to charge the actual operating costs plus a standard daily rate representing the capital cost of the equipment.
