Supports Minimum Billing Level: It makes no sense to bill $2.50 or sometimes even $25 for a task or service that will ultimately cost the client $2,000. In this case the time could be billed, but the amount is so small that it just confuses the whole issue. If this is important to users, they should have the ability to set minimums below which no billing will occur even though billable time or cost has been accumulated.

Billing Format Options: There are any number of billing types required by customers. This question identifies three. Time and material billing is a very basic billing type that aggregates costs and bills them to the customer. There is no fixed fee. If a contractor works for either the government or department of defense, these entities require very specific reporting and billing formats.

Percentage Completion Contracts: Another billing method is based upon the degree of completeness of a job or phases of that job. Although cost might be a factor users wish to consider in the determination of the percentage completion, the normal method is the determination of the actual percentage figure from visual inspections, sometimes in consultation with the customer. The contract itself will determine if users bill on a percentage of the whole job or a percentage of each phase. The software should accommodate both methods.

Does the job or project billing system read the standard prices in the inventory module, or customer contract prices defined in Inventory, or customer contract prices defined in the job or project module?

Labor Pricing Based Upon: Labor billing rates for either time and material billing or additional labor costs can become quite complex due to the various types of work that can be performed. This question tries to determine the basis for these billing rates as well as where the rate tables are established.

Write Up/Down Options
Supports Multiple Write Up/Down Options: As an invoice is being prepared, users will need to manipulate the actual data in order to produce the final billing information. In many cases hours or costs or billing rates will need to be modified to fit the actual circumstances. This process needs to become part of the job/project history and therefore the system should support write ups and write downs and also track them for historical review.
