Business Metrics Features and Functions
Business Metrics: It should not be necessary in theory to generate any operational report. Users should use an exception management system to identify actual problems and business metrics to measure the effectiveness of their planning and decisions. Business metrics can consist of comparisons against industry standards or user defined standards. The key is not the definition of the standard but its usefulness and whether the comparison against the standard helps people improve their performance. Of equal importance is the use of graphs to measure where the trend is heading. In many instances decisions have a longer term effect and the only way you are going to see if your decisions appear to be having a positive effect is by using graphs to track the trends.
