WMS Technology Configuration Features and Functions
The technology configuration addresses WMS-specific functionality such as RFID, security, and internationalization supported by each vendor. It also touches on programming and other technologies used in the development of the WMS application.

Security
The WMS should include multi-level access control to limit specific functions to the appropriate personnel responsible for these functions.

The WMS should have a flexible system architecture and include multiple configuration options.

Reports, Documents, and Queries
Reports, documents, and queries--The WMS should enable the creation of structured queries, on line enquiry, and report generation and support--both ad hoc and based on a pre-defined schedule.

Internationalization and Localization
The WMS should include tools and data models to enable the user to make required modifications to data and fields, as may be required when using the system in different parts of the world. This should include support for multiple languages, currencies, units of measure, and other variations that may apply.

Host Interface
The WMS should include a flexible interface to host and legacy systems, and enable multiple configurations. The interface should support the real-time exchange of data as well as batch processing, as required.

Upgrades
System upgrades, as appropriate, should be optional and take into account the impact of the upgrades on the existing system implementation. All upgrades to functionality should be available as desired.

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
The following category covers criteria for tags and storage devices, readers, wireless hubs and servers, and the middleware necessary for evaluating an RFID system deployment. RFID systems are used in different situations that require the tracking of unique items. RFID tags, in the context of enterprise resource planning and supply chain management, make items visible from manufacturing through distribution. RFID tags may be used to carry basic information such as an address, to more complex information used at different stages of an assembly line. RFID tags include an RF transmitter that uniquely identifies the product. Transmission distance is generally up to nine meters or thirty feet. Tags are either passive or programmable. This is an expensive option and suitable for specific applications.
