Product Cost Estimation Features and Functions
Cost is typically a key consideration for products. The cost of an item can be most effectively influenced during the design phase by selecting the optimal materials, using common materials where possible and designing for ease of manufacture. Cost analysis and cost simulations for existing products are often handled by the ERP system, however developing costs for new or experimental products is handled by PLM so that cost does not become an afterthought.

Cost Drivers
A source of expense for a product that can be individually captured, estimated, and analyzed. Examples are procurement cost, inbound transportation, inspection cost, etc.
|
Cost Rollup and Simulation
The ability to review a BOM and production process for an item and calculate estimated costs. Cost rollups typically start with the lowest level of the product structure and work upwards to the end product.
|
Part Costs
The costs that are directly associated with a material, whether they are purchased costs, activity based costs, or produced costs.
