Product Data Organization Features and Functions
Product data organization and vaulting is the primary capability of the product data management portion of a PLM system. Product data organization provides an environment to manage complex and numerous CAD files and other information about parts. Key goals for this are to make sure that engineers and non-engineers alike can quickly find the product or design information that they need, and see all associated product and/or project information without having to search in multiple places. Without organization, engineers and others wrong revision of a design or document, or start from scratch with a design because they can't find the appropriate information quickly. Given the complexity of the file structures of a modern 3D CAD environment, product data organization and vaulting is typically a high priority for most companies.
