BOARD Certifies Its Unique Business Intelligence/Business Performance Application with TEC

BOARD International, a private Swiss-based enterprise software company, provides a unique application to the market. The BOARD Management Intelligence Toolkit comprises an original mix of business intelligence (BI), business analytics (BA), and enterprise performance management (EPM) capabilities—all within the reach of single interface or platform. The aim is to provide a single integrated solution that offers most of the services an organization would need for an integrated and complete business analytics.

The originality stems from what BOARD calls a toolkit approach, using a set of tools for custom BI and EPM solution development with the aim of
  • offering less rigid deployment models than BI solutions,
  • encouraging flexibility and agility in developing a complete enterprise analytics and data management solution, and
  • providing all the BI and EPM capabilities within a single and integrated interface.

With these and other features, organizations can benefit from having a light yet robust solution for rapid development of BI and EPM applications, saving time and monetary resources, as well as optimizing performance and timing of the delivery of analytics solutions.

In this blog post, I’ll fill you in on some interesting facts about the vendor I discovered during the product demo session, as well as some of the key functionality features of BOARD’s BI application:

  • Reporting and analysis
  • Analytics
  • Data warehousing
  • Workflow
  • Data integration
  • Support
  • Product Technology

About BOARD

Founded in 1984, BOARD International provides an original application that combines within the same platform important functionality for performing both BI and EPM operations, along with other important functionality for performing data management and analytics.

Unlike some other vendors, BOARD International is not based on a full suite of separate individual products and technologies—but on a single offering that integrates much of the necessary functionality for complete data management.

BOARD’s original toolkit approach enables both small and large organizations to exploit and maximize BI and performance management functionality at a lower cost. BOARD enables users to develop and deploy applications for reporting, dashBOARDing, and scorecarding, as well as for planning, budgeting, and consolidation. During the demo session, we witnessed how easy it is to design and deploy dashboards and scorecards with a great deal of flexibility and clearness (see figure 1 below).

BOARD also provides data navigation, distribution, and effective extract, transform, and load (ETL) and data integration capabilities.

BOARD Management Intelligence Toolkit

BOARD provides a range of functional features for performing the complete data cycle, from data collection, management, and storing, to its process and usage for analysis. These capabilities are hosted within a single offering, using a single interface, and optimized for ensuring agile business performance and development.

Since its launch in 1994, the solution enables organizations to address all their BI and performance management needs—using a single application construction environment, a single technology, and a single interface. So customers can rely on having full control over BOARD’s BI and EPM features within a single interface, while having the flexibility for managing and configuring the application.

The core of the offering is its Toolkit, which assembles a unique environment for providing all the development capabilities for BI and EPM applications.

BOARD Computing Capabilities

Besides its cohesive and neat platform, BOARD covered for us many other interesting features such as its Hybrid Bitwise in-Memory Pattern (HBMP) technology using a proprietary and efficient algorithm for performing in-memory computing. This comes with capabilities for performing full, on-demand, or hybrid memory disk-based computing, thus allowing users to perform data analysis at high speed.

Sample Feature Comparison: BOARD vs. Industry Average

The figure below shows the outstanding rating of BOARD’s Data Warehouse features when compared with the average product in the BI industry as determined by TEC. This shows BOARD’s capability to provide users with high degree of functionality for managing data end to end—from data collection to information visualization.

About the BOARD Certification Process

To achieve TEC certification, BOARD completed TEC’s detailed questionnaire (download sample BI RFI templates) and delivered the formal product demonstration I’d requested. This demo let me do a trial of some features that I was particularly interested in validating, including more than 100 features and functionality sets.

I encourage you to stay tuned for the full certification report, where I will review BOARD’s Suite main BI and EPM features, including its strengths and weaknesses, and an analysis of each module within TEC’s BI software research model. The report will be available for download soon on the TEC Certification Reports page.

In the meantime, you can use TEC’s online tool to compare BOARD with some other BI solutions available on the market, free of charge. This can help you gauge whether BOARD may be a solution you would want to evaluate further for your organization’s BI needs.

If you have specific questions about BOARD’s BI solution or the certification process, please leave me a comment below, and I’ll respond as soon as I can.
