awarepoint_logo.jpgAwarepoint Corporation announced an agreement with Baystate Health to install the Awarepoint real-time location system (RTLS) at the first of the health system’s three hospitals. The initial deployment will occur at Baystate Medical Center. This deployment will cover 1.3 million square feet and track 3,000 assets. The installation at Baystate facilities will focus on tracking and managing assets.

Awarepoint Corporation delivers its cloud-based RTLS on a single platform of integrated software, technology, and managed services. The company is dedicated exclusively to the healthcare industry. The solution enables healthcare organizations to better manage assets, patients, and personnel in real time across the enterprise.

The average healthcare facility has to carry an inordinate amount of excess assets including expensive medical pumps and other devices. The ability to track and manage these assets more effectively can significantly drive down operating costs and at the same time greatly increase the time medical professionals can devote to patient care. Other notable benefits that drove Baystate Health’s decision included the following:

  • Drives equipment workflow, and not just basic tracking

  • Has a demonstrable return on investment (ROI) with $3-$7 returned for every $1 invested

  • Offers the only cloud-based, turnkey RTLS with an integrated software, technology, and managed services solution on a single platform, which minimizes internal information technology (IT) involvement

This is a very interesting solution that is focused on the healthcare industry where there are acute needs. Other businesses could also benefit from this type of solution where a large number of hard and soft assets need to be managed reactively. I can think of an airport or two that could really benefit from this solution.
