I am pleased to announce that Technology Evaluation Centers’ (TEC’s) online software evaluation and selection system, TEC Advisor, has exited the beta phase and its latest release is now available.

For software end users that are not familiar with the application, allow me to bring you up to speed (power users, feel free to scroll down). TEC understands that filtering through the vendor hype and comparing solutions objectively can be a challenge. That’s why when we built TEC Advisor, we ensured that you could access detailed information about enterprise software solutions—collected directly from vendors—at your fingertips. Through a series of “pre-selection” questions that capture your business needs and priorities, TEC Advisor enables you to compare and shortlist the solutions that fit your specific requirements, based on the level of support indicated by vendors.

You can then analyze the list of the highest-ranking solutions using TEC Advisor’s powerful analytics tools, and generate detailed graphs and reports to help support your analysis. With this knowledge from TEC Advisor and with other TEC software selection engagements, we help empower information technology (IT) decision makers at the negotiation table with the vendor.

TEC Advisor

If you’re intimidated by TEC Advisor, don’t be. You don’t need to be an expert on enterprise software to use the application—in fact, we’ve specifically made the interface and step-by-step process intuitive and user friendly so you can make fast and accurate enterprise software comparisons. But don’t take my word for it. I invite you to try TEC Advisor now to see for yourself.

New Features
For our regular users, you may be interested in some of the new features in this latest release. They pertain to the TEC Advisor pre-selection tool (i.e., the series of questions prior to entering the Evaluation step) and include:

  • The ability to define the software type at the beginning of the pre-selection process, rather than the end, thus allowing for a quicker and more accurate shortlist. For example, choosing Business Intelligence (BI) from the drop-down menu will instantly return a list of business intelligence and/or business performance management (BPM) products.

  • The “is this requirement mandatory” filter has been improved, and now disqualifies solutions that do not meet your minimum requirements. For example, you may be looking for solutions that apply only to the oil and gas industry. Vendor products that do not meet this requirement are flagged and disqualified during pre-selection.

  • At the end of the pre-selection process, you can now generate a “high-level requirements” report that allows you to select up to five products to see how they compare against your requirements. For an in-depth analysis, you can always proceed to the Evaluation step, where you are able to compare the products head-to-head using our sophisticated analytics and reporting tools.

In addition, like the rest of the TEC Web site, TEC Advisor is now also available in French, Spanish, and Chinese. Select “Language [change]” at the top of the page to switch to the language of your choice.

Test drive the latest release of TEC Advisor now.

The TEC R&D team has worked hard on the latest release of TEC Advisor, and we will continue to work with vendors to augment and update the product data on file. Look out for regular announcements in the TEC Newsletter as new vendor data becomes available.
