Dassault Systèmes Acquires SFE

The integrated conceptual engineering trend is taking hold.

Autodesk’s Simulation 360 cloud software would be one example. The concept phase is critical and difficult, as it requires the combination of multiple disciplines and skills, and the collaborative effort of several individuals and teams. Accordingly, Dassault Systèmes, a leading provider of 3D design software, 3D digital mock-up and product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions under the 3DEXPERIENCE brand, has acquired SFE GmbH, a leader in body conceptual engineering and performance evaluation and optimization.

The addition of SFE’s technology to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is expected to enhance Dassault Systèmes’ transportation and mobility industry solution experiences, such as “Target Zero Defect.” This acquisition should expand its CATIA and SIMULIA applications, bringing to the market an innovative technology for transitions from early conceptual engineering and performance optimization to detailed body design. From quick modeling to post processing analysis, to product performance simulation and shape optimization, the full design process should now be integrated.

The transaction, the amount of which was not disclosed, includes the purchase of SFE GmbH, its various products, SFE CONCEPT, as well as its acoustic and noise vibration harshness (NVH) simulation offerings, SFE AKUSMOD, SFE AKUSRAIL, and SFE MECOSA. Dassault Systèmes sees numerous places where this capability can bring value to other industries, not just transportation and mobility. SFE reinforces Dassault Systèmes’ already strong position in the body-in-white domain, as well as the automotive market in general. On the other hand, the acquisition should bring immediate benefits to SFE’s impressive list of automotive customers, including General Motors, Porsche, Fiat, Chrysler, Daimler, FORD, BMW, Volkswagen, and others.
