Deltek Acquires Axium to Solidify Its A&E Position

Deltek has acquired Axium, a provider of accounting and project management solutions to more than 2,200 architecture and engineering (A&E) firms throughout North America. The two companies, once direct competitors, are united by an unwavering commitment to the A&E industry. Moreover, with 12,000 A&E customers combined, Deltek expects to deliver the world’s broadest and deepest project-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions for A&E firms of all sizes.

While Deltek has long offered solutions such as Deltek Vision to small and fast-growing A&E firms, Axium strengthens Deltek’s position in this market. Firms with fewer than 250 employees are seen as the largest segment of the A&E industry within North America. With Axium, Deltek has A&E expertise and capabilities, such as customer relationship management (CRM), resource planning, project management, financial management, and business performance analytics, and a marquee list of successful customers. Deltek already offers mobile-friendly tools built for A&E project managers that make it simple for project teams to manage and collaborate on projects anytime and anywhere.

At first glance, the Axium acquisition looks like Deltek’s move to take out the competitor and gain a market share. It remains to be seen whether Axium and Vision will be positioned for different targets or whether they are going to be converged into a single product. Hopefully some clarity will be offered up by the time of the Deltek Insight 2014 conference in the fall.
