The release introduces a series of new features: quick course creation enabling instructors to embed rich media in learning and assessment activities and personalize learning experiences to improve students' learning results. Students are able to access course materials from any device.

With this new version Desire2Learn attempts to capture the transitional territory in which education is today. Educational institutions are looking at moving from the confined, face-to-face and in-classroom mode of delivery to an open, blended, and online learning experience. A recent article on the popular science blog Impact Lab highlights an interesting undertaking in this regard initiated in Sweden, where "architect Rosan Bosch designed a school so children could work independently in opened-spaces while lounging, or go to 'the village' to work on group-projects."

According to  John Baker, president and CEO of Desire2Learn, "Desire2Learn is transforming education by enabling learner-centric approaches such as adaptive learning, the flipped classroom, and experiential learning. This release empowers our customers to better connect with learners—whether they're leveraging Desire2Learn Capture for rich media webcasting, using our analytics to predict student success, or using the audio and video capabilities that are prevalent throughout the Desire2Learn Learning Environment and mobile apps."
