Technology Evaluation Centers (TEC) is proud to announce the TEC Vendor Challenge—ERP for Distribution. The Vendor Challenge event is for distributors, manufacturers, and other companies with extensive shipping and logistics operations. The event is being co-sponsored by our partners Aberdeen Group, Pemeco Consulting, and SupplyChainBrain. The event will be held from September 18–19, 2013 in beautiful Montreal, Quebec. For more information and to register for the event, visit the Vendor Challenge Web site.

At the Vendor Challenge, top enterprise software vendors will present their solutions to attendees. This event offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity for you and your team to see solutions from seven of the market leaders all in one place. During the two-day event, attendees will get a chance to see up to five scripted product demonstrations from this all-star line-up of market players. The Vendor Challenge is a great opportunity for companies looking for a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution or for companies that just want to see what the latest products have to offer.

The solutions being demonstrated at the Vendor Challenge include:

  • Epicor Prophet 21

  • IBS Enterprise

  • Infor Distribution SX.e

  • Microsoft Dynamics AX

  • NetSuite

  • SAP Business All-in-One

  • VAI S2K Distribution Management

All of these products are available for online comparison using our proprietary TEC Advisor tool. TEC Advisor and the in-depth knowledge base of data collected by TEC can eliminate the lengthy process of developing RFIs and collecting and comparing results from vendors. An organization can perform an extensive, in-depth analysis of vendor solutions with just a few clicks.

Here, we’ll take a quick look at how the products being demonstrated in the Vendor Challenge currently compare using TEC’s model for ERP for Distribution. The data used for this scoring has been obtained from vendor responses to TEC’s research questionnaire as received by TEC at the time of the writing of this blogpost. These high-level comparisons can help an organization determine which product(s) can best suit its business needs.

Using TEC Advisor, I chose to look at the scoring for the solutions in the supply chain management module within the ERP for distribution model. The supply chain module includes submodules for warehouse management, transportation management, international trade logistics, and supplier relationship management.

Supply Chain Management – Scenario 1

In the first scenario, I weighted all modules within supply chain management equally. All modules were considered to be “Must Haves” in my software selection.  Below is a graph showing the results for this scenario (click on graph for a larger image).

Supply Chain Management – Scenario 2

For the second scenario, I wanted to see what would happen if I didn’t need international trade logistics capabilities, so I set this module’s priority to “No Need” and then re-ran the numbers.  Below is the graph for this scenario.

What is interesting in reviewing the results produced by just these two scenarios is how the scores of different vendor solutions can change significantly when different criteria are used with the TEC Advisor tool.

In this example, we’ve compared the solutions from a functional perspective only. During the Vendor Challenge, you’ll also have the opportunity to see scripted, live product demonstrations to help you determine exactly which solutions are most likely to be a fit for your particular business needs. The Vendor Challenge is a rare opportunity to see all of these vendors in one place and view their solutions side by side.
