Infor M3 to Handle Fresh Food Planning

Infor has announce plans to deliver a range of enhancements to Infor M3 (formerly Intentia Movex). The enhancements will include the development of Infor M3 Fresh Food Planner (FFP), a new application for companies that produce ultra-fresh food (counting shelf-life in days rather than weeks and months).

Infor M3 FFP is designed to deliver a new way of planning fresh food production, as these manufacturers are continually caught between being out of stock and having stock that is past its shelf-life. The new concept of “forecast pacing” will provide detailed insight into current and historical flow of orders—down to the hourly level. This should helps manufacturers refine forecasts within the tool and reduce costly write-offs.

Unlike traditional planning solutions, FFP is designed to run directly on top of the operational enterprise resource planning (ERP) database providing instant access to live data about current demand, supply, and stock levels. Combined with the speed of reporting, this should enable a more efficient daily planning process, for fresh food manufacturers to be as fast and agile as possible.

With FFP the goal is for the planner to have the ability to adjust forecasted demand and plan production within the same application. This capability should deliver total control over a rapidly changing situation for fresh food manufacturers.

Being able to adjust historical vs. actual data, or align days to days across years, is not easy. Achieving “hourly anything” detail is complex, but Infor has advanced supply chain planning (SCP) tools to drive this. It is likely that Infor is leveraging the expertise and intellectual property from Infor Demand Planning and/or Advanced Scheduling to provide this capability.
