Lucent Receives Engineering Award in Unified Messaging
P. Hayes - July 11, 2000

Event Summary

MILPITAS, Calif., July 19, 2000--Lucent Technologies has been chosen as the recipient of the prestigious Frost & Sullivan Market Engineering Award for its product line strategy in the unified messaging market.

Market Impact

The award was for Lucent's Unified Messenger Product, which integrates with the Microsoft Exchange Messaging server to provide voice, fax, and e-mail to its users. The award is in recognition for not only the advanced integration capabilities with the Exchange platform but also for innovation in bundling hardware, software, and support under one contract.

Another reason for the award was Lucent's release of www.messenger, a browser based tool which allows users to access voice, fax, and e-mail from a computer or telephone.

User Recommendations

As the Unified Messaging market continues to build momentum, companies such as Lucent are poised to reap tremendous monetary awards as their products sell. Positive spotlight publicity certainly puts Lucent's Unified Messaging solutions in the forefront. While Lucent may face some stiff competition from companies such as Active Voice and AVT Corporation, awards such as the Frost & Sullivan Engineering will boost their sales. We recommend an evaluation of Lucent's UM products, however we also recommend a compare and contrast with AVT and Active Voice, both of whom offer good Unified Messaging solutions.
