Metal Shark Boats Selects Rootstock’s Cloud ERP

Rootstock Software, a provider of cloud manufacturing and supply chain management (SCM) applications on the Salesforce Platform (and available on the AppExchange by, a popular marketplace for business apps), recently announced that Metal Shark, a Louisiana-based supplier of aluminum-built commercial, military, and government boats, has chosen Rootstock’s cloud ERP to help run its highly automated manufacturing processes with precise controls and planning, including 3D modeling and precision cutting. The company, founded in 2005, has quickly established itself by delivering products tailored for the exacting requirements of its customers in the military, law enforcement, and commercial sectors.

Metal Shark’s rapid growth, including expansion to an additional facility, precipitated the need to move to more functional enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. Having been a customer relationship management (CRM) customer, Metal Shark had a choice between Rootstock and Kenandy—established ERP products available on the Salesforce Platform. Metal Shark was reportedly impressed with Rootstock’s material requirements planning (MRP) engine.

Rootstock MRP uses information from sales order management to drive the top-level demands, not only for end items but also for any item and by project. MRP thereby performs the traditional "netting" and plans to the greater of the sales order demand and forecast demand, by period. The project control capabilities of Rootstock were especially appealing to Metal Shark since the company has government contracts, and many products are available on a General Services Administration (GSA) schedule. Additionally attractive was the multi-tiered serial tracking feature that provides an indented bill of material (BOM), a serial view of an "As Built" versus "As Maintained."
