Mutual Drug Selects Epicor TDX
Mutual Drug Selects Epicor TDX
While most of
’s recent wins revolve around its flagship
) product suite, the vendor recently announced that North Carolina Mutual Wholesale Drug Company has
Epicor Trading Partner Document Exchange (TDX)
as its electronic data interchange (EDI) application, replacing the company’s previous EDI solution provider. Mutual Drug is based in Durham, North Carolina, and is a wholesaler for pharmacies in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Formed as a cooperative, Mutual Drug is owned and managed by its member stores and sells only to independent pharmacies.
Because of its broad spectrum of brands and products (more than 25,000 items), Mutual Drug was searching for a robust application that could maintain its database of products and improve the company's auditing workflow process, both of which were needed for continued e-commerce growth. The selection process out of five service providers took approximately four months. Epicor offers a global EDI value-added network (VAN) solution that is on average 50 percent cheaper than its competitors and can be used in just about any EDI translation software.
Many EDI vendors offer proprietary transmission of data, such as purchase orders, price updates, and new item additions. Epicor TDX, which
came from former
, ensures compatibility with these data exchange services—data transmission defines standards for how two computers exchange data. Epicor provides fully tested TDX and EDI relationships, ensuring seamless exchange with supplier and partner systems.
In addition, the Epicor TDX VAN has enhanced online document tracking tools that display the purchase order, invoice, and other documents in an easy-to-read format that anybody can use. The documents are all reconciled to their original sources and schemas. All Epicor business systems have TDX fully integrated, meaning that all EDI support is handled by a dedicated EDI-specific on-shore TDX technician, which means no more multiple EDI support calls. The main competitors are IBM Sterling Commerce, Inovis/GXS, NuBridges, and Easylink.
The markets served by Epicor TDX are open-ended, meaning that the solution can work within any segment. Historically, TDX serves distributors, manufacturers, and retailers in the medical, lumber, hardware/hard goods, safety, and industrial markets. The new three-year agreement with Epicor is expected to cut costs by more than 90 percent and save Mutual Drug at least 20 percent in labor services compared with its previous provider.
