My PLM Video Playlist on YouTube
My PLM Video Playlist on YouTube
April 1 2010
A little heads-up: We’re going to start having videos on TEC’s Web site. We'll produce videos in the future but the first step we’ll start with is a library of links to freely available ones from YouTube. Although YouTube mainly serves as a source of entertainment, there are videos for other purposes as well. After a little searching and watching, here is
my playlist of YouTube videos related to product lifecycle management (PLM)
Dr Michael Grieves - Author and International PLM Expert
: This video contains an interview with Dr. Grieves at the European PLM Summit on June 25
, 2008. Although the interview took place nearly two years ago, his opinions on how to understand the PLM concept are still highly valuable.
Lean Product Development
: This video is actually an introduction to a course titled Lean Product Development given by Professor Jeffery Liker at the University of Michigan. Liker is the author of
The Toyota Way
, and the co-author of
The Toyota Product Development System
. Although “the Toyota way” isn’t perfect, as we've seen recently, I do recommend PLM practitioners to check out the 13 lean product development (LPD) principles in the latter book.
On the Street - Do YOU Know What PLM 2.0 Is?
: I picked this video because of the PLM 2.0 explanation and the humorous way that the PLM 2.0 story was told. I have to admit that PLM (not to say PLM 2.0) is not a well-known concept outside the PLM circle. I found that the most viewed PLM video on YouTube has less than 10,000 views, which is a fraction compared to videos such as
Susan Boyle’s performance at Britain’s Got Talent 2009
Steve Bashada: End-to-end PLM (Siemens PLM)
: In this video, Steve Bashada, Vice President of Teamcenter Applications at Siemens PLM Software, talked about the highlights in Teamcenter 8, including the architecture, functionality, and enhancements of the solution. This will provide you with a high-level overview of what this PLM solution is capable of.
Innovation and Lifecycle Management in the Manufacturing Industry
: “LM (lifecycle management)” has been in conjunction with many letters now. Other than PLM, we’ve also heard of SLM (service lifecycle management), MLM (merchandise lifecycle management), QLM (quality lifecycle management), ALM (asset lifecycle management), etc. In this video, Capgemini introduced another “LM”—innovation and lifecycle management (ILM).
End-to-end PLM Story
: This video from Dassault Systemes uses the company’s 3D capabilities in design, simulation, and manufacturing to demonstrate the process of making a business card holder. Although I don’t think this represents the entire PLM story, it does bring viewers an overall idea about what today’s digital manufacturing is about.
PDMLink 9.x Overview (
: This overview of PTC's Windchill PDMLink 9.1 from a ProENGINEER standpoint might be too technical to some people. However, if you are interested in knowing more about PLM, this software demonstration gives you an idea about how today’s product designers can work in an integrated environment of computer-aided design (CAD) and product data management (PDM).
Carl Bass Anti-PLM Rap
: Having this anti-PLM video as part of my playlist doesn’t mean I agree with the opinions in the video. However, it shows a different voice from the PLM vendor community. For more information about Autodesk’s anti-PLM positioning a few years ago and its more recent expansion to the PLM area, please read Oleg Shilovitsky’s blog post
PLM for Individuals— Integrate or Die?
These videos are in my playlist at the moment. I’m hoping it will grow in the future. If you have your favorite PLM videos, please don’t hesitate to share them with us.
