Oracle Delivers In-Memory Value Chain Planning Solutions

Each of many Oracle In-Memory Applications on Oracle Engineered Systems is designed for a specific business purpose to transform an enterprise’s business processes, accelerate its activities, and help it become information driven. When Oracle develops new In-Memory Applications, it looks first at what particular problems need solving, and what is the best way to solve them. Once Oracle has defined the problems, it then looks at the unique capabilities of each Engineered System, and chooses the best and most appropriate one based on requirements, functionality, and other market considerations.

Oracle recently announced the general availability of two new Oracle In-Memory Applications for Oracle Value Chain Planning (VCP): Oracle In-Memory Consumption-Driven Planning and Oracle In-Memory Performance-Driven Planning. Oracle VCP is an integrated solution with modular architecture covering a spectrum of planning requirements to help more effectively and profitably design, plan, and service the value chain landscape in these days of complex, responsive, and data-intensive supply chains.

Faced with increasing demand volatility and exploding data volumes, organizations are finding it increasingly difficult to plan their supply chains and effectively meet their customers’ needs. To that end, these new applications help customers manage larger data volumes, reduce planning cycle times, and make better decisions.

Oracle In-Memory Consumption-Driven Planning helps organizations understand and respond on a daily basis to true end-customer demand, thus helping to reduce bullwhip effect and to improve on-shelf availability and inventory turns. The solution moves planning closer to the consumer by using granular consumption data, such as daily store-level point-of-sale (POS) data, to calculate a time-phased sell-in forecast. There is scalability for daily store-level replenishment planning, and both consumption-driven and traditional distribution center (DC)-level demand management are present in a single system.

Oracle In-Memory Performance-Driven Planning helps organizations analyze and plan massive amounts of supply chain data and get better and more timely business insights to simulate multiple real-time scenarios in order to improve decision making and reduce risk. Near real-time interactive planning, simulation, and analysis come from an extreme speed for plan data collection, plan run, and plan archive processing to enable enterprise-wide planning across multiple segments and a large number of products and organizations. In addition, advanced visualization and graphics make it easier to analyze large data sets and find the right information.

In short, each Oracle Engineered System is designed to optimize the performance of a particular aspect of IT infrastructure: Exadata for the database layer, Exalogic for the applications layer, and Exalytics for real-time business intelligence (BI). The purpose of the particular In-Memory Application will dictate the Engineered System that is the most applicable. In addition, not all use cases will require the extreme performance of an Engineered System, which is why Oracle offers a range of choices, such as Oracle Endeca with its in-memory data discovery capabilities.
