Oracle announced the general availability of its first enterprise performance management (EPM) solution offered in the cloud, Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service, part of the Oracle Enterprise Planning Cloud portfolio. Part of the Oracle Cloud, the service is built on Oracle Hyperion Planning. The Oracle Cloud delivers a broad suite of subscription-based, enterprise-grade application, social, platform, and infrastructure services.

Oracle Hyperion Planning is one of the most robust planning and budgeting solutions in the marketplace providing agile forecasting, predictive planning, rich scenario analysis, and interactive dashboards. Unfortunately for many organizations, the power of Hyperion Planning has been out of reach due to cost, deployment, and adoption hurdles. The release of Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service will allow organizations of all sizes to realize the power of Hyperion Planning.

Oracle has layered a number of cloud-specific enhancements for Hyperion Planning that provide the following benefits:
  • Accelerated Deployments: Pre-built starter kits, intuitive application creation wizards, best practice design guides, interactive online help/tutorials, and migration tools allow organizations to deploy robust planning applications in weeks.
  • Easier User Adoption: Role-based interfaces and Microsoft Office integration enables users to perform planning, reporting, and analysis via the Web interface or in Microsoft Excel, leveraging existing user competencies.
  • Simplified Administration and Maintenance: Built-in run-time diagnostics for optimal design, automated scaling based on user demand, scheduled maintenance, and managed software updates add operational efficiency.
Hari Sankar, vice president of product management at Oracle, notes that "today's general availability reflects our commitment to helping organizations of all sizes harness world-class enterprise performance management in the delivery model of their choice."

For small and midsize companies that always wanted to see what driving Hyperion Planning was like, now is the time to take it out for a spin. Just be forewarned, you might never take your old planning tool out of the garage again.
