While the focus of the Oracle OpenWorld 2013 conference is naturally on new products involving sexy technologies such as in-memory databases, cloud, mobility, and social collaboration, Oracle tirelessly continues to enhance its existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) products under the Oracle Applications Unlimited program. And now, to help organizations manage the complexities of global business environments, Oracle has announced the general availability of Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2.

This release includes Online Patching capabilities, aimed at organizations with high availability requirements, such as manufacturers and organizations with users around the world, allowing them to reduce patching and maintenance downtimes. In addition, Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2 leverages Oracle’s integrated technology stack, Oracle Fusion Middleware, to help drive efficiencies and improve the availability, performance, and scalability of applications.

Among the hundreds of cross-industry capabilities that span ERP, human capital management (HCM), and supply chain management (SCM), there are enhancements in the following ERP areas: Oracle Contract Lifecycle Management for Public Sector;  Oracle Projects; Oracle Purchasing; and Oracle Supplier Lifecycle Management. In addition, Oracle Financials has been integrated with Oracle Fusion Accounting Hub and Oracle Data Relationship Management to help companies improve automation and efficiency while supporting compliance with changing accounting and reporting requirements.

The latest release of Oracle E-Business Suite includes the following SCM enhancements:

  • Oracle Order Management—A new solution for selling subscription services leverages Oracle Configurator to enable users to configure and sell products along with subscription-based services on a single order.

  • Oracle Warehouse Management—Streamlined mobile user interfaces, enhanced managerial workbenches, improved catch-weight functionality, and better extensibility all support greater fulfillment flexibility.

  • Oracle Manufacturing Execution System (MES)—Usability improvements such as express serialized manufacturing help boost the productivity of shop floor operators and increase compliance through standardization.

The aforementioned Online Patching, which offers a smooth and predictable patching process with minimized downtimes and maintained business continuity, is a major benefit alone, but when combined with enhancements across ERP, HCM, and SCM, 12.2 makes this a significant new release of Oracle E-Business Suite.
