SAP Brings HANA to the SME Market

Yesterday SAP announced its strategy to provide small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with the services of the SAP HANA platform via SAP HANA analytics for SAP Business One and the SAP HANA Edge Edition.

HANA, SAP's in-memory database and analytic platform, will provide Business One users with in-memory analytics specifically designed for small and medium businesses. In this regard, Ketan Solanki, consulting manager at Evolution Future Solutions Pty Ltd stated that "analytics powered by SAP HANA for SAP Business One will offer customers the flexibility to create interactive reports and run ad-hoc analysis faster than before."

Another offering from SAP for the SME market is SAP HANA Edge edition, targeting businesses running under the SAP Business All-in-One solution.

"Small businesses have the dual need of a real-time software platform for their business, and yet simplicity in their IT landscapes," said Dr. Vishal Sikka, member of the SAP Executive Board, Technology & Innovation Platform, SAP AG.

Also relevant is the additional offering of SAP HANA bundled with SAP BusinessObjects Edge Business Intelligence, giving real-time analytic capabilities to BO Edge BI users in the SME market.

According to SAP, HANA, Edge edition, is now globally available via enabled and authorized partners. This is in line with the recurrent need from SME customers for real-time capabilities as well as the potential to handle big-data issues—i.e., not only storage but also analysis and management, which often is conceived and planned for large companies. It will be interesting to see how SMEs will be able to adopt these offering to their IT strategies.
