SAP Business One 9.0 Released

The “little” SAP Business One solution is an unsung hero of sorts at SAP. Indeed, more than 38,000 customers worldwide in nearly 30 languages and over 630 partners are often ignored as less newsworthy by market observers. The business management solution for small businesses (with 10–20 users, on average) can be deployed on premises or in the cloud, and is accessible via mobile devices.

During the SAPPHIRENOW 2013 conference, SAP announced the general availability of the 9.0 version of the SAP Business One running on Microsoft SQL Server (which is the product’s original database). With more than 50 new features, the latest version offers enhanced capabilities for warehouse management, infrastructure, and inventory management, as well as improved systems performance.

The solution is now integrated with the Ariba Network, whereby SAP Business One 9.0 customers can connect to the vast trading network to manage more connections with more buyers across more processes in a fully automated manner. The enhanced software development kit (SDK) for partners, consultants, and customer information technology (IT) employees helps to extend the functionality of SAP Business One and to create industry and company functionality, and interfaces with third-party tools.

In addition, the 9.0 version of SAP Business One that can natively run on the highly publicized in-memory platform from SAP is now in restricted shipment (to about 150 early adopters). The SAP HANA platform enables companies to instantly analyze growing volumes of data and gain the benefits of fast application performance without necessarily complicating IT landscapes. SAP Business One on HANA will offer a dedicated development framework for partners to enable native development and deployment of add-on analytical applications powered by SAP HANA.

The 9.0 version of SAP Business One, version for SAP HANA, is also planned to include the following capabilities:

  • New and enhanced business processes: By integrating operations in high-concurrent usage in real time with other business processes, such as invoice and delivery, SAP HANA will speed up key transactions and improve visibility into cash flow. Fixed assets management, bin location management, multiple units of measurement (UOM), and pricing and discounting reports will be included to help customers enhance their business process management.

  • Real-time reporting and analytics: Traditional pervasive analytics (via embedded SAP Crystal Reports that take time to be produced) have been supplemented by predictive capabilities adding SAP HANA as the data source. Common reporting such as balance sheets, inventory turnover, and sales analysis will thus be further accelerated, while embedded reports will support a real-time comparison of suppliers, prices, and payment terms to negotiate better deals on the fly.
