SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI Brings Analytics Capabilities to SMEs

Seeking to expand the reach of its business intelligence (BI) solutions to small to midsize enterprises (SMEs), on June 14, 2011, SAP unveiled new releases of BusinessObjects Edge Business Intelligence suite and SAP Crystal Reports Server for SMEs, both slated for availability in the third quarter of 2011.

Eric Duffaut, president of SAP’s Global Ecosystems and Channels stated "SAP Crystal Server and SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI are two perfect examples of how we are innovating to alleviate the pain points commonly experienced by SMEs and lines of business. We work closely with our customers, and we are turning analytics into something that is easily accessible by making it more affordable and less time-consuming. A broader range of organizations and departments will now be able to get stronger value and insights to solve business problems efficiently and effectively."

SAP intends to provide organizations in the SME space with more high-end functionality features, such as capabilities for handling unstructured information originating from social media sources with its BusinessObjects Edge Business Intelligence 4.0, and real-time data analytics capabilities with the SAP BusinessObjects Event Insight application and its new 64-bit architecture, thereby increasing the processing power of SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI.

The scalable architecture of BusinessObjects Edge BI enables organizations to expand the application as needed and even transfer information from SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI to SAP BusinessObjects BI Enterprise.

The addition of more complex functionality features and the shift to business-oriented (from IT-oriented) architectures for BI products intended for SMEs are making possible a greater adoption of BI solutions by companies in the SME space, at an affordable price.
