SAP has responded to customer pressure and announced that SAP Fiori user experience and SAP Screen Personas software will be included with SAP software. SAP Fiori was launched last year and provided SAP users with a refreshing new and simple user experience across multiple devices. However, from the time of launch until now, SAP has been charging customers for SAP Fiori.
The growth and adoption of Fiori over the last year created a challenge for SAP. One the one hand, the tremendous new user experience proved to be a success and adoption of SAP Fiori has been strong even with the extra cost. On the other hand, as SAP customers began to see how the modern user experience changes the way they work with SAP applications, the existing users started clamoring for SAP Fiori to be part of their existing SAP investment. In a rare change of direction, and as proof that SAP does listen to its customer base, SAP responded by rolling back the additional charge for SAP Fiori.
SAP will also offer a portfolio of UX services including design, rapid deployment, and custom development subject to a separate fee. SAP is making the tools and modern design guidelines for UX development available for developers to create their own solutions, which includes portions of the SAPUI5 framework as open source code. SAP also announced the beta release of the SAP River Rapid Development Environment (SAP River RDE) as part of the SAP HANA Cloud Platform.
SAP Fiori is “the new UX for SAP software.” For the first time in years, SAP has delivered a product that will truly change the user experience across the SAP product line. It might be hard to imagine, but there might be a day when VA01 is just a memory.
