StarGarden SGHR Achieves TEC Certified Status

image001.jpgTechnology Evaluation Centers (TEC) is pleased to announce that StarGarden SGHR is now part of TEC’s Human Resources (HR) certified solutions and available for evaluation online in the Human Capital Management (HCM) Evaluation Center.

Within the next few weeks, I will write the certification report on StarGarden SGHR and make it available for download on the TEC Certification Reports page. The report will provide a detailed overview of the product, with a focus on its main abilities to support HR agendas and day-to-day routines of organizations today. I will describe the solution using the structure of TEC’s HR software research model.

In the meantime, I have written this blog post to provide you with a high-level overview of some of the key features and functions that StarGarden SGHR demonstrated to me during the certification demo for its HR software solution.

StarGarden has been operating since 1984—at that time, the company’s name was PathFinder. The company started out as a custom-coding provider, honoring various commissions coming from a diverse client pool. One of these commissions was an HR payroll system for the Ministry of Labour in British Columbia, Canada. The Ministry of Labour wanted to have a very specific design to its product—i.e., a position-centric system that would reflect the requirements of different unions and employee groups. This is different from most HR systems, which are employee based.

When StarGarden first developed StarGarden SGHR, the market did not offer any comparable product. Therefore, in 1987, StarGarden decided to package this initially commissioned HR payroll system for the market and make it available to all institutions.

The response of the market was good, allowing the company to run eight sales offices around North America. In the ‘90s, the company decided to reduce the number of its sales offices in favor of investing more in the capabilities of its product, which expanded to include:

• single source code for multiple platforms,

• Windows interface,

• web enablement,

• a tool set that allows the extension of functionality with workflows ,

• scheduling, and

• time and attendance.

The StarGarden SGHR is a fully integrated system, and its modules cannot be sold stand alone.

StarGarden has recently introduced mobile apps that support employee self-service and manager self-service. The company is continuously working with its customers to expand and refine its mobile offering. Future releases will focus on advancing the scheduling module and the workflow engine, and on offering the hardware necessary for time clocks (biometric readers, for example).

To achieve TEC Certification, StarGarden SGHR completed TEC’s detailed questionnaire (download sample HR RFI template) and delivered a comprehensive product demonstration. During the demo, StarGarden allowed me to view a large number of features and functions of StarGarden SGHR, underlining the product's strengths, as well as some of the functionality the company feels is worth improving in the future.
