SOFTWARE VENDOR M&As, PARTNERSHIPS, AND PRODUCT LAUNCHES

Kronos acquires SaaShr.com
Cross-industry HR/payroll, WFM, HCM
"This acquisition will help broaden Kronos' already impressive product portfolio. With SaaShr.com comes an extensive network of partners and resellers for Kronos, which will allow these partners to more effectively compete with their larger global competitors."—Sherry Fox, TEC HCM Analyst

"Kronos' expansion plans via acquisitions aim to capture certain industries and the lower end of the market. The first one took place via the recent OptiLink acquisition in healthcare, while the latter took place via SaaShr. As its name suggests, SaaShr offers a SaaS workforce management  suite for small and midsize businesses. SaaShr’s solutions are used in thousands of organizations across a wide variety of industries, and the vendor brings its well-established network of payroll service bureaus, professional employer organizations, HR outsourcers, and VARs to Kronos. As a result of this acquisition (Kronos' 63rd!), Kronos will significantly broaden its product portfolio and will allow SaaShr partners to more effectively compete with larger, well- established national competitors. Kronos SaaShr has 4,300 end-user customers (through its partner network), which significantly bolsters Kronos’ existing presence in the lower-end market (where it already has thousands of customers)."—P.J. Cincom Systems and Microsoft Dynamics sign global ISV partnership
ERP, Complex discrete ETO and project-based manufacturing
"What makes this Microsoft alliance different is the very large budget and top-level sponsorship by the giant in addition to Cincom CEO Tom Nies personally driving a large part of it. Cincom's focus is on taking its expertise in complex manufacturing and creating application suites to compliment MS Dynamics AX in specific industrial equipment manufacturing market segments, including A&D.

In addition to the core businesses of CONTROL ERP (where Cincom has the majority of its customers, but with fewer and fewer new deals, thanks to a mature market with fierce competition), Cincom is also a Dynamics AX reseller, and is now participating in this Microsoft Dynamics AX development project (built entirely on Dynamics AX foundational components).

Moreover, Cincom Acquire has a very strong relationship with Microsoft Dynamics CRM. The Acquire team is working the Dynamics AX teams right now as well; they reportedly met together several times during Convergence 2012.

Cincom will continue to develop its native CONTROL ERP application in conjunction with an entirely new suite of applications that it's designing right now for Dynamics AX. As Cincom is really good at bid, proposal, and quote management from the Acquire CPQ/Q2O side, it has applications under development on the AX platform that comprise of entirely new software.

The alliance is going in the direction of project-based manufacturing applications built on Dynamics AX—all entirely new applications—that will unify bid, proposal, and quote management with project management in manufacturing. Watch out IFS!"—P.J. Jakovljevic, Principal TEC Analyst

Arena Solutions and ERP Logic partner to bring cloud PLM solution to SAP Business ByDesign customers

Arena provides them with a collaborative environment for centralizing, controlling, and analyzing complex and constantly changing product information, including BOMs, part specifications, and change orders.

But with the recent cloud PLM offering by Autodesk, 360 PLM, which has similar simplicity traits to Arena, and traditional PLM providers getting there soon, one way for Arena to differentiate is by ERP alliances: in addition to SAP Business ByDesign, Arena is already a PLM partner to NetSuite and QAD."—P.J.
