It is my pleasure to announce that the UltiPro human resources (HR) solution is now TEC Certified.
The UltiPro Certification Report will be published within the next few weeks on TEC’s Web site in the certification reports section. Before then, here’s a sneak peek into my gatherings.
Ultimate was founded in 1990 and has been publicly traded since 1998. Although over time the product has changed dramatically, evolving from client-server to cloud (multi-tenant SaaS), the company’s focus on culture has remained consistent. In 2013 Ultimate was named number nine company to work for in America, by Fortune 100.
The founding members of Ultimate Software put employees at the heart of the business, as happy employees lead to great products and customer experience. In fact, Ultimate’s philosophy goes beyond its internal functioning and spills over into the relationships they build with their customers, whose employees they treat with care—acknowledging the person-to-person relationship that occurs during any exchange between two companies.
Technology Development and Target Market
Ultimate has been bringing new technology platforms to the market since its inception. In 1997, its client-server 32-bit object-oriented HR and payroll product was hot technology. In 2002 the company introduced its version of multi-tenant SaaS, thus being one of the pioneers in the HCM cloud market. Today, Ultimate has four data centers in Atlanta, Phoenix, Toronto, and Vancouver.
The two main target markets of interest to Ultimate are mid-sized companies (200 to 1,000 employees) and very large and large enterprises (1,000 to 100,000 employees). Its sweet spot is represented by North American companies whose HR strategy focuses on acquiring and retaining talent. Its largest customer employs around 88,000 people. Customers range over a number of industries: manufacturing, high-tech, hospitality, sports and entertainment, etc.
Some of top-three product differentiators that Ultimate unveiled by interviewing its customers are listed below:
unified nature of UltiPro as core HR, payroll, and benefits are integrated with talent management
strength of payroll functionality due to Ultimate’s seniority in the payroll market
cloud technology due to the increased demand in this technology

In addition, as UltiPro only addresses HMC requirements, Ultimate delivers strong third-party integration with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
TEC Certification is an impartial review that verifies a software product's ability to address real-world business processes. To achieve TEC Certification, Ultimate completed TEC’s detailed questionnaire (download sample HR RFI template) and delivered a comprehensive product demonstration.
Stay tuned for the publication of the TEC Certification Report on the UltiPro solution, with more on the product’s background, highlights, features and functions, competitive strengths, and weaknesses. In the meantime, you can interactively review UltiPro via TEC Advisor.
