IFS has announced that Zef Scientific, Inc., a multi-vendor service provider for high-performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) systems used in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, and environmental industries, has chosen IFS Enterprise Service Management software to manage productivity for its growing business. Deployment includes Zef Scientific’s headquarters in San Diego, California, and other offices in North America and in Morocco.

Zef Scientific offers various service plans, including preventive maintenance, one-time repairs, and equipment qualification services. The company deploys a nationwide team of HPLC-MS field service engineers with experience on a wide range of models. Due to its rapidly expanding customer base, the company is implementing IFS Enterprise Service Management to improve efficiencies in its scheduling and dispatching process for both prearranged and emergency calls to its technicians without increasing administrative staff.

Zef Scientific reportedly chose IFS Mobile Workforce Management (over FieldOne, among others) to optimize schedules and dispatches in real time and to record field activity. It will also incorporate IFS Field Service Management with an additional interactive customer Web portal component, to allow customers to manage labor, customer information, parts usage, returns disposition, product installed base information, service delivery, and contract entitlements. Zef Scientific expects to give its customers much more involvement and transparency in managing their scientific equipment. The solution includes reporting tools and key performance indicators (KPIs).

IFS has been having great success of late, but given its asset management savvy and install base, it should be seeing more customer wins in the area of field service management (FSM). This space is hotly contested by leading vendors such as Click Software, TOA Technology, Oracle, Ventyx (part of ABB), etc.
