attune Consulting Implements SAP AFS at Bauer Performance Sports

attune Consulting, a global solutions provider to the fashion and lifestyle industries, has successfully deployed SAP Apparel and Footwear Solution (AFA) at Bauer Performance Sports Ltd. (BPS), a developer and manufacturer of ice hockey, roller hockey, lacrosse, baseball, and softball equipment, as well as related apparel. This is an interesting story that speaks to the challenges companies face as they grow and acquire new businesses.
Following the acquisitions of Maverik Lacrosse in 2010 and Cascade Helmets in 2012, BPS established a new and expanding presence in lacrosse, one of the fastest-growing team sports in North America. attune helped BPS to implement the SAP AFS 6.5 enterprise resource planning (ERP) system across the companies and create a scalable enterprise architecture that operates with the existing technology environment. The implementation has enabled BPS to integrate the companies to meet the increasing demand and seasonal deadlines associated with purchasing lacrosse equipment.
While Maverik was running on an older version of SAP AFS, Cascade was using a legacy system—requiring both a significant system upgrade and first-time implementation of SAP. BPS was able to integrate the acquired companies and gain control over key processes, from production planning and inventory management to sales distribution and financial controls. attune continues to provide BPS with on-going solutions support through its Managed Services Practice.
Typical SAP AFS competitors are vendors such as BlueCherry by GCS, Infor M3, NGC Software, and Sage (including partner solutions). In this particular case the option was to do SAP AFS or do nothing. Bauer’s hockey business is already on SAP ERP and AFS so doing something different would have required connecting a third-party solution with interfaces, which would diminish the strength an integrated system offers.
