Background and Analyst View

Founded in 1998, NetSuite is the second largest public software-as-a-service (SaaS) company in the world, with offices in 8 countries and more than a thousand employees. Originally named NetLedger, the company offered a product called Oracle Small Business Suite until 2002, when it launched NetCRM and NetSuite and changed its name to NetSuite. NetSuite filed for initial public offering (IPO) in 2007.

NetSuite offers two versions of its enterprise resource planning offering: NetSuite for small and medium-sized companies and NetSuite OneWorld for medium and large companies requiring multinational business management functionality. NetSuite CRM+ is part of NetSuite and NetSuite OneWorld but is also sold as a standalone solution for customer relationship management (CRM) and sales force automation (SFA). To complement the core functionality, NetSuite created a real-time business intelligence product (SuiteAnalytics)—a workflow management tool (SuiteFlow) and a development platform (NetSuite Business Operating System [NS-BOS])—which allows customers and partners to build applications and integrate with other solutions. Larger businesses may also take advantage of the NetSuite solution so long as their needs are not too complex or they are willing to commit to some customization. Customization is facilitated with the NetSuite platform where new functionalities can be developed and integrated as an additional layer on top of the core programming, thus protecting the continuity of the extra development done by businesses in the course of NetSuite’s biannual release schedule.
