Environmental concerns are a focal point for businesses wanting to “go green,” and they are looking at every aspect of their operations, including their printers. Replacing even a portion of energy-inefficient printers with environmentally friendly ones will have a positive impact on the environment, helping to conserve energy and reduce waste. Saving energy is not only good for the planet; it’s also good for business.

Counting the Cost of Network Efficiency

It is hard to quantify the costs of poor network or application management, but they include lost productivity due to time spent fixing problems and increased capital and operating expenses. But when creating IT budgets, organizations need to consider the impact of investment in network and application management on overall revenues. IT efficiency should be a priority item for any corporate agenda, and executives need to understand that the network is not only a core part of what their organization does, but plays a key role in achieving business goals.

There is actually a direct correlation between network performance and application performance. There is of course intrinsic value in network hardware and software, but more importantly many people in the organization rely on the applications that the network supports—so if the network is running slowly, users’ applications will slow down too. Hence a budget priority should be where changes in the network are needed to avoid problems arising or improve application performance and hence overall productivity.

This white paper makes a case for the organizational need for solutions and tools which provide network performance information and help identify problems and their causes and areas where improvements should be made, making it possible for budgetary decisions to be based on performance data. It looks at questions the IT team needs to ask to get to the heart of network problems and find the best solution, as well as three categories of network improvements, and also details how an AANPM, or application aware network performance management solution, takes an application-centric approach to network issues and can lead to faster problem solving, reducing downtime, increasing productivity, and saving troubleshooting time.  Read More

From VAR to Solution Provider: Five Strategies for Business Transformation

The traditional value-added reseller (VAR) business—comprised of companies that add features or services to an existing product and then resell it as an integrated product or complete solution—has become more challenging, with declining product margins, increasing competition, and lower-cost alternatives to proprietary products. The pressures are causing many VARs to grow their businesses from simply selling products to offering more comprehensive solutions built on a richer set of services and recurring revenue models.

For decades, VARs have been an important channel for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), like computer manufacturers and software vendors, to reach customers. The “value-add” can simply be to provide local implementation and hands-on support or it can involve adding other hardware, software, and services to tailor the OEM’s product to a specific industry, problem, or use. In many markets, customers prefer buying from VARs instead of directly from OEMs, as VARs are closer to the customer, offer local support, and are in a better position to develop long-term relationships.

The VAR business model has been attractive in the past, as it was profitable to resell OEM products. Over the past decade, however, product margins have been shrinking as the result of several long-term trends. In this report, learn about five strategies for making the transformation from VAR to solution provider. The changes needed require a new view of the business and a new mindset, to move from a deal mindset to long-term customer relationships, become invested in customer success, and transition from cash up front to realizing revenue over the life of a contract. Read More

Using Chatter with FinancialForce Accounting for Better Credit and Collections Collaboration

Collaboration is a key part of credit and collections, both in avoiding disputes and resolving them. Effective information sharing can go a long way. They have used Chatter on the Salesforce1 platform in an effort to support those collaborative processes by both providing full account visibility to all stakeholders and tracking conversations to keep everyone informed. The key is to find a user-friendly, intuitive approach to communication and data storage that encourages adoption. Read More
