What is SRFM?
The planning, execution and partner collaboration processes of nearly all companies today are driven by a

A COMPARISON OF ERP SYSTEMS RESEARCH: today are driven by a plan , itself typically part forecast, part performance target. Together, the plan and these core processes are at the heart of almost everything a company does—from MRP output, to commitments to customers and suppliers, to internal performance targets and the bonuses that depend on them, to the financial projections delivered to Wall Street. The day to day activities that absorb the majority of working hours, however, and through which things ultimately get done, often seem to

IBI + IBM = EAI
The latest entrant in the race to support IBM's MQSeries Integrator Version 2 is Information Builders (IBI) with its Middleware Technology Group's 'Enterprise Connector for MQSeries Integrator'. The product provides SQL access to over 80 different data sources, and should prove a good fit with MQSI. In addition, IBI has announced support for IBM’s WebSphere Application Server.

A COMPARISON OF ERP SYSTEMS RESEARCH: platforms and runs with a wide range of ERP and legacy systems. We are pleased to see Information Builders support for the MQSI open node architecture. In addition, IBI has announced support for IBM s WebSphere Application Server , Advanced Edition 3.5. According to Mr. Senor, Enterprise Connector will provide WebSphere with out of the box rapid integration capabilities for data transactions and applications that require writing custom code . The accessibility to crucial information is essential to

OS SmackDown!
In the latest escalation in the battle between Windows and Linux, directions on how to replace each with the other have been published on the Web by their respective champions.

A COMPARISON OF ERP SYSTEMS RESEARCH: on how to remove a Windows OS and replace it with Linux. To close the circle, Paul Ferris, Editor at Linux Today, highlighted the silliness by publishing his own mostly-joking piece on how to uninstall both Windows and Linux. (His directions lead to a wiped out disk drive, of course.) Market Impact Alone, these documents will have minimal market impact, except to provide fodder for the pros/antis on both sides to complain about the other and their tactics. Operating system market growth will not be

Stand Out in the Crowd
It pays to clearly and compellingly differentiate your products from those of your competitors. How will Microsoft Business Solutions differentiate its products from Best Software's?

A COMPARISON OF ERP SYSTEMS RESEARCH: In particular, they saw a difference in one bird whose mere presence prompted others to drop their scraps of food, so he could swoop down and enjoy a meal. He didn t even act aggressively but somehow this gull stood out—and that enabled him to make a terrific living. The lesson for business-to-business (B2B) software marketers is (no, not intimidation!): it pays to clearly and compellingly differentiate your products from those of your competitors. In fact, it s one of the fundamental factors in

The Data Explosion
RFID and wireless usage will drive up data transactions by ten fold over the next few years. It is likely that a significant readdressing of the infrastructure will be required--in the enterprise and the global bandwidth.

A COMPARISON OF ERP SYSTEMS RESEARCH: was useful; but being a technophile, I went for it. And rapidly it all came to me! I tried on a new cool jacket ... I crooned over it ... but for that much money, I wasn t sure. Should I really buy this? Enter the pic in my cell phone! We chicks have our honor guard. You know those close friends who will tell you the truth—eyes roll- what did you do to your hair- friend. So I took my picture and sent it. Hey take a look at me in this—what do you think? Real time feedback! And that got me to thinking a

IBM Server Line Redrawn
IBM has continued its renaming binge, moving from PCs to servers.

A COMPARISON OF ERP SYSTEMS RESEARCH: on existing processors without a physical upgrade Logical partitioning (LPAR) across the entire eServer product set All servers will be Linux enabled The eServer product line will be separated into four series: zSeries - mainframes (although IBM no longer uses that term, apparently) pSeries - UNIX-based iSeries - mid-market xSeries - Intel-based Market Impact On the surface, this looks like the standard product line revamping/renaming that almost every company goes through from time to time. There were

Linux Laptops from Dell
Dell now has begun selling two models of its laptops with Linux preinstalled.

A COMPARISON OF ERP SYSTEMS RESEARCH: Feb. 4, according to a company representative. The move has been expected since last August. The CPX is the top-of-the-line model of Dell s Latitude line, slimmer and more expensive than the Inspirons, which are designed to be more like replacements for desktop computers. The price for the Linux models is the same as for the Windows 98 models, the representative said. Dell has been selling servers, workstations, and business desktops with Linux preinstalled. All major hardware companies offer servers

The Third Paradigm
Supply chain systems to date have represented the back-end of that process of servicing markets and have taken us a long way in replacing assets with information. But the fact is, building products still takes a long time. Contrastingly, markets require short response times--days. For the last few years, we have begun the process of trying to understand the unplanned event. The first and second paradigm systems deal in knowns--this is what I think I need and therefore this is what I will buy. The Third Paradigm focuses on the uncertainty elements to understand risk. This is the key. Isolate, understand and organize the chaos—creating an operational and financial model.

A COMPARISON OF ERP SYSTEMS RESEARCH: about us. Scientists define a chaotic system as one that appears to behave randomly, but is, in fact, governed by rules. Chaotic systems are highly sensitive to initial conditions, the seemingly insignificant and arbitrary events that ultimately can have profound and seemingly unpredictable results. But in reality, the results are fairly predictable if our measurement devices sense these inputs. Market formulation is like these chaotic systems, where the confluence of many activities ultimately creates an
