Abstract: Today's usage of Decision Support Systems (DSS), combined with vetted knowledge bases, allows organizations to save time and money, achieving better and more reliable/fully-documented decisions, a quantum improvement over the widely-used subjective process of selecting complex enterprise software...
Abstract: This
tutorial, part 2 of a two part series on Knowledge Based Selection, demonstrates the selection processes and capabilities of Knowledge Based Selection Methods and Tools. These tools, integrated with
business decision making procedures, can arguably reduce selection risk and improve chances for success in IT projects. Given the appalling rate of IT project failures, selection can potentially help reduce risk in some 30% of cases, with an associated estimated cost of about $30B annually to industry according to some sources. In this
tutorial, we illustrate a number of the procedures for rapid decision processing through the real-life selection of a PDA device. The process gave confidence to the argument to wait for the solution, while weighing risk against return.

Abstract: Component event management promises an answer. Component event management is a methodology to systematically detect and resolve component events in the most timely and efficient manner possible. This paper will introduce the philosophy of component event management and introduce a new category of software that is being developed to help implement this concept and improve business performance.
Abstract: Role management is becoming recognized as an essential aspect of an organization's identity management and security. But role management goes well beyond simply assigning passwords or user IDs. You must also manage and govern the roles related to the core business activities of your organization. Start by looking at key considerations for choosing a role management solution, and benefit from suggested best practices.
Abstract: One company executive has a growing influence in today’s boardroom—the chief financial officer (CFO). And the role of the finance organizations that these CFOs lead is expanding as well. Examine the changing role of the finance organization in today’s business environment, learn how your CFO can take on a more prominent role in defining company strategy, and find out how you can develop a best-run finance organization.
Abstract: A survey of existing IT event resolution processes suggests organizations are unsatisfied with current processes, despite the importance of ensuring that severe service outages do not occur. In fact, over 75 percent of participants identified significant gaps in existing processes. However, it is possible to identify the components of an effective interactive event notification platform to mitigate current process gaps.
Abstract: Function points (FPs) are the most popular unit of measure for measuring the size of software. But because FPs were developed in the 1970s, are they not now outdated for today’s event-oriented programming and multi-tiered software architectures?
Abstract: The credit and collection function is the most misunderstood, underutilized, and undervalued area of business. When allied with the sales function, controlled A/R can generate a significant cash inflow playing a huge role in the prospect-to-cash cycle.
Abstract: Many chief financial officers (CFOs) have started to take on new strategic roles. Their goals are to enforce stricter controls to ensure legal and regulatory compliance, offer strategic insights into the internal and external business environment, and connect the business strategy with daily operations through performance tracking. Learn more about the changing role of the CFO in today’s finance organization.
Abstract: The role of the finance team has changed recently, due to increased oversight from regulators, more active investors, and company-specific changes in business operations. What steps are companies taking to respond to the internal and external forces? Find out how finance often repairs core finance and operating activities, as exposed in the results of a survey and a series of interviews among senior finance executives.
Abstract: Chief information officer reporting relationships continue to be distanced from the strategy function. The marketing function is experiencing this same distancing from strategy. However, the two functions should be on the leading edge of strategy, rather than the receiving end.
Abstract: A manufacturing execution system (MES) can be defined as a collection of business processes providing event-by-event, real-time execution of planned production requirements. However, market ambiguity and functional overlap with enterprise resource planning systems obscure what an MES can bring to an enterprise.
Abstract: Disintermediation is the process of removing redundant intermediaries from a systems management infrastructure. Once vital to systems monitoring, proprietary agents are now made largely redundant by native management tools, emerging standards and agentless monitoring architectures. Centauri makes disintermediation possible by providing a low-cost event management solution that unifies performance data and event messages under a common umbrella. This paper describes how you can take advantage of the disintermediation opportunity and minimize the risks of migrating from working proprietary data collectors to a new native-agent based solution.
Abstract: Diverse groups have been discussing PIM from the perspective of data synchronization and syndication, product lifecycle management (PLM), and enterprise publishing. Each of these product categories includes the management of product information, but each uses product information for a different operational role.

Abstract: Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software solutions, like many of the application suites that have come before it, are a collection of different offerings that serve a common theme and contribute to overlapping value propositions. Like previous application suites, there is strategic value in approaching PLM as a set of inter-related requirements as opposed to just a collection of function-specific requirements. This is a report on the observations from the 2003 Product Development Manager’s Association (PDMA) Conference.
Abstract: Archiving and logging standards place a great burden on network security professionals and IT administrators. When your routers, firewalls, and other devices are added to multiple servers, the volume of data that must be kept accessible can be tremendous. Learn more about event log standards and challenges, and how to implement a tool that can improve troubleshooting and diagnosis of incoming—and in-house—security issues.
Abstract: IT plays a critical role in any business process outsourcing (BPO) effort—it’s the backbone that supports the transactional operations of outsourced business processes, as well as analysis, tracking, and quality control efforts. Given the importance of IT, organizations pursuing BPO must ensure that they take the time to adequately assess their skills and IT options—before committing to a service provider.
