The portal utilizes direct calls to the back-end servers, thus eliminating the middle tier - no impersonation and no scalability issues. It consists of five components that are also available as separate products. The Silverlight BI Portal can be easily extended with additional components:Silverlight Business Intelligence Companion – the first truly no installation, web-based application for quickly browsing and analyzing OLAP cubes. You won't be able to find anything faster than the BI Companion. If you know how to use your mouse, you are ready to delve into your data. Creating reports and dashboards is a matter of minutes now. Drag and Drop functionality makes the BI Companion user friendly for users of all technical levels.Silverlight BI Companion is zero deployment, web based, secure cube browser that does not require any installation on your workstation. You start the web site off our server, and the web sites starts to run in your local web browser. After you enter your xmla exposed end point for your analysis server, the code connects to your analysis server and all communications are only between your browser and your analysis server. All data processing, rendering, drawing and presentation are performed on your local machine, thus server resources are preserved. The Companion for MS Analysis Server and the Companion for MS SQL Server are back-end products that focus on the monitoring, reporting and optimizing the most valuable IT resources - the data servers.
