The Market Rewards Ardent Software Initiatives
Over the last year, Ardent Software (NASDAQ: ARDT) has announced a number of initiatives to strengthen their DataStage data warehousing product, most recently a partnership with NEON Systems (NASDAQ: NESY), a provider of OS/390-MVS mainframe access through their NEON Shadow Direct middleware. On October 18, Ardent reported record financial results for their third quarter ended September 30, 1999. Pro forma earnings were reported to have increased 64%. Total revenues for the third quarter increased 53% to $45.3 million from $29.7 million in the same quarter of 1998.

Informix XML’s Its Metadata Transport Layer

IBM Buys What’s Left of Informix
In another sign of consolidation within the database vendor market, IBM has announced that they are acquiring the assets of Informix Software (the database portion of Informix Corporation, which remained after the spin-off of Informix Business Solutions into Ascential Software). IBM intends to use the acquisition to improve their presence in distributed databases, and increase penetration in the small-to-medium enterprise market.

Informatica Conforms to Metadata Standard
Informatica Corporation (Nasdaq: INFA), a major extract/transform/load tool vendor, today announced the general availability of MX2 1.6, the latest version of its Metadata Exchange (MX2) application programming interface (API). Informatica bills MX2 1.6 as the first object-oriented metadata exchange facility to support XML, a text-based programming language standard for integrating and managing bi-directional metadata exchange.
