EAM Showdown! IFS vs. Mincom vs. CHAMPS
Using our EAM Evaluation Center, we compared Mincom Ellipse, CHAMPS, and IFS head-on. For the overall rankings, we looked at the vendors in two basic configurations: with back-office (HR and financials) functionality, for a total of eight main modules, and without, for a total of six main modules. To eliminate any chance of bias, and to ensure a level playing field, all 3,146 criteria comprising the modules and submodules in the EAM request for information (RFI) were given equal weight and priority.

BMC Software Webs for the DBA
BMC Software, (NASDAQ: BMCS), has released a new product called Web DBA, designed to provide what they refer to as “application service assurance™”. The product is still in beta, and currently only supports Oracle, and is available for download and trial over the web.

NetWare for Small Business – NetWhy?
Remember Novell? They’re a small Utah company that makes network software called NetWare, now aimed at small businesses. Sounds familiar?

DB2 MINCOM: users, $499, which includes DB2 and Domino. Or we can buy Microsoft s Small Business Server 4.5 for 100 or so users - including Exchange 5.5 and SQL 7.0 -- for $5,840. Or we can buy this Novell bundle, which includes Oracle 8i and GroupWise (still going!), for $7,945.
