SAP Case Study: AZ Electronic Materials
When Luxembourg-based AZ Electronic Materials was carved out of Clariant International and sold to a private equity firm, the new company was given one year to wean itself off its parent’s information technology (IT) system. AZ beat the clock by three months, working with partner Accenture to roll out SAP business software across nine countries and six manufacturing plants.

Demand-driven Versus Traditional Materials Requirement Planning
Material requirements planning is a system that strives to plan replenishment just before a withdrawal from stock, which does not work in some manufacturing environments.

DIFFERENT TYPE OF MATERIALS: being made available through different outlets—may it be food, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), etc. Needless to say, the need to reduce capital employed within the manufacturing enterprise and the trend of outsourcing manufacturing to lower-cost regions overseas, which typically increases lead times (which customers do not appreciate), only complicates the conundrum of low costs and increased efficiency for embattled manufacturers. This means that customer management has to move up several steps of

Global Materials Management Operations Guideline/Logistics Evaluation (MMOG/LE)
The MMOG was a self-assessment process developed by the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) to provide consistent methodology for evaluating supplier performance, identifying weaknesses, and focusing improvement efforts. The Global MMOG/LE incorporates the Odette Logistics Evaluation (OLE), developed by AIAG’s European counterpart, to provide a single global standard for self-assessment. The MMOG is a proven tool for supplier development and provides a recognized industry standard for suppliers who have been asked by customers to complete a self-assessment. Although it was developed by the automotive industry, QAD believes it can be a helpful benchmark tool for customers across many verticals.

Point of Sale: To Stand Alone or Not?
When selecting a point of sale (POS) solution, users have a choice between stand-alone solutions and integrated solutions. They should first evaluate core and non-core components of POS systems, and assess the strengths and weaknesses of best-of-breed and integrated approaches.

DIFFERENT TYPE OF MATERIALS: a retail price for different reasons, such as discounts on damaged items, discounts after negotiations, or competitive price matching. The price management module should track these retail price changes, by assigning a code to the reason, or total discount, or employee number, and so on. This module should have the capacity to generate a report for auditing purposes. Register management : The register management component includes processes for cash opening procedures, cash closing procedures, and cash

The Power of One
The typical mid-market company that has roughly $350 million in annual revenue, has not fully automated its business processes, and would gladly give up its legacy systems if everything could work from one server, and give the executives the information they need in the process. Another opinion in the dilemma - the one-stop shop versus best-of breed concept.

DIFFERENT TYPE OF MATERIALS: will take a slightly different approach to solving the problem. Our answer is found in the Power of One. This means one primary business application, using a single data model to store all relevant information. Editor s Note : This article, written by a staff professional from a well-known vendor, was selected for publication to open a debate on the proverbial and controversial dilemma — the one-stop-shop (i.e, the power of one) versus best-of-breed concept. Vendors, consultants, users, etc. are more

The Wheres of Electronic Procurement
An overview of one of the central issues facing a deployment of e-procurement: Who controls the software?

DIFFERENT TYPE OF MATERIALS: a way that is different from most other applications. For most applications, while there may be inputs coming from outside the company or data sent to the outside, the core of the application - the way we think of where it is -- lies well within the enterprise. With E-procurement the focus is on the transaction, which lies between two different organizations. If E-procurement were simply about two different players - a buyer and a seller - it would not be quite so interesting, or so difficult. But each

Reducing the Cost of Systems Operations
Reducing the Cost of Systems Operations.IT White Papers and Other White Papers Related to Reducing the Cost of Systems Operations. Disintermediation is the process of removing redundant intermediaries from a systems management infrastructure. Once vital to systems monitoring, proprietary agents are now made largely redundant by native management tools, emerging standards and agentless monitoring architectures. Centauri makes disintermediation possible by providing a low-cost event management solution that unifies performance data and event messages under a common umbrella. This paper describes how you can take advantage of the disintermediation opportunity and minimize the risks of migrating from working proprietary data collectors to a new native-agent based solution.

DIFFERENT TYPE OF MATERIALS: will be faced with different options for the monitoring approach you take. Although the savings from disintermediation are significant, it is foolish to ignore the implementation effort required. This effort is greatly reduced when it is part of a broader IT/business alignment exercise since data collection is addressed as a matter of course. In this case, disintermediation is one of the many benefits of IT/business alignment with Centauri. Many organizations have been able to justify their business servi

The Market Impact of Two Powerhouses
This is an analysis of the equivalent moves of two superpowers to secure the lower-end of the market, also known as the small-to-medium enterprise (SME) market segment. One is Microsoft Business Solutions (MBS), the other is UK-based the Sage Group.

DIFFERENT TYPE OF MATERIALS: seem to have somewhat different strategies going forward, and time will tell who will ultimately win. Certainly, no one should hereby dismiss the importance and clout of the likes of Epicor Software or Exact Software in the market segment, each with own innovative twists on the value proposition (see Epicor s Mid-Market Pitch Becomes Higher For (One) Scala and Exact Software—Working Diligently Towards the One Exact Synergy ), but both market observers and Sage and Microsoft themselves will respectfull
