J.D. Edwards Teams with FRx Software to Improve Reporting Solutions
J.D. Edwards recently announced support for financial reporting solutions from FRx Software. This software makes it possible to consolidate information from
sales opportunity. However, J.D. Edward's approach seems to be to gather all the data from the distinct datasources through the FRx reporting engine, rather than to build a data warehouse. The warehouse approach would be a more efficient use of network and CPU resources over time, and is the approach taken by other vendors such as SAP and PeopleSoft. In addition, building OLAP cubes on the fly is very resource intensive. The upside is that the data is completely current as of the time the report is run.
Shall Bifurcated Tack Reverse J.D. Edwards’ Bad Spell?
By opting now for a “best of both worlds strategy,” J.D. Edwards might finally have a formula of getting out of the doldrums it has been in for some time. While
Chairman and President C. Edward McVaney. We still see softness in our core manufacturing and distribution sector, which reflects an overall market downturn, but I'm pleased with our improving services business and excited about our planned acquisition of customer relationship management vendor YOUcentric. I feel we are in a strong position to capture growth in the collaborative applications market. Market Impact J.D. Edwards has been at the crossroads for some time. Contrary to its main competitors

J. D. Edwards' CEO Edward McVaney hopes someday will supplant the need for conference room pilots. Autopilot automates user interactions with the OneWorld GUI. Market Impact Active Supply Chain has been generally available for less than a month and it is far too early to make detailed predictions on its future impact in the supply chain management software market. J. D. Edwards will be aided in its quest for supply chain implementations by its choice in acquiring Numetrix, a recognized leader in advanced
i2 Technologies’ Latest Offering: J. D. Edwards OneWorld™
Users should welcome the prospects for better integration delivered by the new alliance but temper expectations with the realization that it may be merely a
statement. Clearly, J. D. Edwards realizes the impact that i2 is having on the e-business marketplace and is eager to allay itself with a marketplace juggernaut that could help it out of its doldrums. A 22% increase in license revenue in its second fiscal quarter ended April 30, 2000 was not enough to stave off a staff reduction and restructuring effort at the once profitable ERP vendor. Competitors like SAP and now Oracle are poised to seize a large share of the supply chain management opportunity among

SAP NetWeaver Event Summary It is amazing to see so many similarities (albeit with the inevitable handful of nuanced differences) between SAP , IBM , Microsoft , and Oracle 's approaches to worldwide domination of the enterprise applications market. One similarity is these vendors' attempts to deliver a service oriented architecture (SOA)-based platform for their existing and prospective customers, and to entice their partners to build ever-growing ecosystems upon these (see SOA as a
