Oracle Loses Again
SAP AG has chosen SQL Server 7.0 as its strategic database for the Windows platform. The companies also will cooperate to make the Windows 2000 OS available as a platform choice for customers wishing to implement mySAP.com solutions. On the heels of the agreement to use IBM DB2 as a preferred backend database, Oracle continues to lose market share as a database in the ERP arena.

ERP ORACLE TEAM STRUCTURE EARLY STAGE: to hurt them. Other ERP and CRM vendors increasingly perceive Oracle as a competitor and not a partner, and this trend is expected to continue. We believe that Oracle will try to reverse the trend, but their strong push into applications software (especially ERP and CRM) will prevent them from succeeding. According to one source, more than 50 percent of new SAP U.S. installations on Windows NT have been on SQL Server. User Recommendations Customers evaluating SAP should be very careful evaluating what bac

Is Oracle Becoming Invincible?
On June 20, Oracle Corporation, the leading provider of database and enterprise software applications, announced its fiscal 2000 results, claiming that it has passed SAP to become the world's largest applications software company.

ERP ORACLE TEAM STRUCTURE EARLY STAGE: as the No. 1 ERP vendor yet. Where Oracle is surely winning, however, is in its quest to prove a point that the business application market s move toward e-business and the Internet is a prerequisite for survival and any subsequent success. To that end, the company has radically changed its product architecture within a short time bracket. Three years ago, it was struggling with its fat client architecture, and had a significant Y2K compliance issue. Today, Oracle has a head start on most of its

Oracle Product Showdown!
I'm Larry Blitz, editor of Technology Evaluation Centers’ (TEC) Vendor Showdown series. Today’s Vendor Showdown is an encore presentation of a Showdown that was originally published last September. It compares two popular Oracle enterprise solutions—JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and E-Business Suite—head to head.

In other words, no area of functionality was treated as being more important than any other, allowing for a true apples-to-apples comparison. Oracle APS Makes Its Debut
Oracle Corporation officially released its Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) applications recently amid the usual fanfare. Long in coming, APS still has significant ground to cover.

ERP ORACLE TEAM STRUCTURE EARLY STAGE: key areas of its ERP suite with functionality of interest to its manufacturing customer base. The single data model of APS, if proven to be viable, will give it an advantage over other products, including those of Supply Chain king i2 Technologies. i2 has amassed a suite of products largely through acquisition and has struggled to stabilize a common data model upon which to anchor the products. Contrary to Oracle s marketing banter, however, APS still faces many of the same synchronization challenges as o

ERP Showdown: Deltek Costpoint vs. Microsoft Dynamics AX vs. Oracle E-Business Suite
We looked at eight standard ERP modules. To eliminate any chance of bias, and to ensure a level playing field, all 3,600 criteria that make up the modules and submodules in our ERP Evaluation Center were given equal weight and priority. In other words, no area of functionality was treated as being more important than any other.

ERP ORACLE TEAM STRUCTURE EARLY STAGE: offers across the entire ERP spectrum.) As the chart below shows, Oracle finished first in six of the eight modules, with Deltek and Microsoft finishing first in one module each. However, as with most aspects of enterprise software, it s not that simple or clear-cut. Rankings, either overall or by module, do not tell you everything you need to know. What they do provide is a basic, high-level view of vendors general strengths and weaknesses right out of the box . However, the fact is, few businesses, if

Stalled Oracle Fumbling For A Jump-Start KitPart 3: Market Impact
Oracle remains a true IT powerhouse with fingers in many pies other than databases, such as application servers, and development tools, which ranks it as an enterprise infrastructure provider, together with SAP, IBM at a higher and, and Microsoft at the lower end of the market. However, Oracle may be getting very uncomfortable with how its protracted disappointing revenue results (possible the worst in a decade) jeopardizes its No. 2 position in the applications market. It seemed all but inconceivable over a year ago that PeopleSoft could be so close to snatching the No. 2 position from Oracle.

ERP ORACLE TEAM STRUCTURE EARLY STAGE: a portion of an ERP system, or a collection of point solutions. Our customers want to replace custom spreadsheets and the myriad of point solutions. This market is still very under-automated and under-integrated. We are, to our knowledge, the first Salesforce Chatter–enabled back-office app and probably the first socially enabled accounting app. Social functionality is part of the app, not a tool thrown on top. Collaboration between sales and finance is critical to help both teams stay informed and
