Discrete Manufacturing (ERP)

The simplified definition of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software is a set of applications that automate finance and human resources departments and help manufacturers handle jobs such as order processing and production scheduling. ERP began as a term used to describe a sophisticated and integrated software system used for manufacturing. In its simplest sense, ERP systems create interactive environments designed to help companies manage and analyze the business processes associated with manufacturing goods, such as inventory control, order taking, accounting, and much more. Although this basic definition still holds true for ERP systems, today its definition is expanding. Today’s leading ERP systems group all traditional company management functions (finance, sales, manufacturing, and human resources). Many systems include, with varying degrees of acceptance and skill, solutions that were formerly considered peripheral such as product data management (PDM), warehouse management, manufacturing execution system (MES), and reporting. During the last few years the functional perimeter of ERP systems began an expansion into its adjacent markets, such as supply chain management (SCM), customer relationship management (CRM), business intelligence/data warehousing, and e-business, the focus of this knowledge base is mainly on the traditional ERP realms of finance, materials planning, and human resources. The foundation of any ERP implementation must be a proper exercise of aligning customers'' IT technology with their business strategies, and subsequent software selection.

CDC’s Ross ERP Now TEC Certified

TEC certification is like a software test drive; a chance to look under the hood, kick the tires, take it around the block with some scenarios. [more on TEC Certification here] I wasn’t disappointed during our recent certification of CDC Software’s Ross ERP. First, let me back up and give you a brief overview of the vendor and its product. CDC is a world-wide company, with 1

The Ross system uses a display that is a bit like a workflow or organization chart with linked, numbered icons (trucks, warehouses, and pallets). Picking a logical inventory location by visual selection and a single click is vastly simpler than the traditional approach. The interface is not all pretty icons, however. The process flow screens are the usual Read More

SAP and Glovia have both apparently claimed that their products, SAP Business ByDesign and GSinnovate (available since late 2006; see A Veteran Enterprise Resource Planning Vendor Makes a SaaS-y Statement ) respectively, were the first to offer on-demand SaaS solutions from the ground up (starting with the basics). However, xTuple scoffs at both vendors; Read More

Customer Relationship Management Strategies Part Two: Creating Your Strategy

CRM system can increase your profits and build customer loyalty by streamlining your processes and provide better quality products and services. However, you first must be prepared to overcome lack of requirements, combat scope creep, and compensate for lack of skills.

Is the street address your customer provided you a valid address? Are the zip codes correct? If you do business-to-business commerce (B2B), you might want to verify your data with the Dun and Bradstreet database or other B2B data source. Once your data is sufficiently clean , develop a process to maintain the quality. Customer data is used throughout the Read More

Cash is King—And So is Your Supply Chain: How Mid-Market Companies Can Optimize Supply Chain Operations for Strong Cash Flow and Focused Growth

For companies of all sizes and across all industries, cash is not only crucial, it’s king. Just to survive, businesses have to carefully manage their cash flow, making sure that payments aren’t going out faster than resources are coming in.

There are a number of ways companies can automate and optimize their supply chains to improve cash flow, such as building strong relationships and implementing new technology. But it should be noted that making the decision to invest in technology or update a supply chain process is a cash flow decision in itself, and should thus be weighed carefully.

It is important to realize that the cost of a supply chain or cash flow failure is, in most cases, significantly higher than even the highest price tags for these investments. With that in mind, supply chain solutions and automation technologies are more often than not worth the investment for growing mid-market companies.

This white paper looks at the importance of cash flow management, especially vital for mid-market companies in the current economic landscape. Due to their size, mid-market companies have a smaller financial cushion than their larger competitors, which means they have a reduced margin of error, a thinner cushion for tough financial situations, and a smaller investment pool for funding growth.

Download the guide for more information on why you should optimize supply chain operations to improve cash flow, including explanations on how seeking out supply chain efficiencies, managing cash flow through managing inventory, and investing in new technologies can help your bottom line.

Is ROI King In Evaluating IT Investments? Part 1. Should We Make the Investment?

IT managers should recognize that cash flow measurements are being increasingly used to evaluate IT investments, even though initial estimates of cash flows from IT projects are often hard to determine because underlying business assumptions can change. IT veterans all know that reconciling IT investments to the bottom line has been problematic.

example flow chart visual basic  change in technology. For example, a major software project is likely to have an impact on more than one business process and may enable new business practices that were unforeseen at the time of the initial purchase. And third, the costs associated with maintaining IT equipment and software are not easy to understand at the time of purchase. Lurking behind the whole topic is the fact that many of the important costs and benefits of an IT project cannot be measured in monetary terms and may be better Read More
