Learning Management Suite (LMS)

These are tools for managing, creating, scheduling training or learning in your organization. The terminology varies from vendor to vendor. Learning management systems (LMS) typically help to manage both classroom and on-line learning. They do not normally include content creation or management tools but may in some cases. Some LMSs may manage just classroom or just e-learning rather than both. Some LMSs may also include content authoring and managment and virtual classrooms. Learning content management systems (LCMS) emphasize the management of content for courses/training/learning. In most cases, they include content authoring tools. In some cases, they may also include some of the features of LMSs. Content authoring tools are often provided as part of an LCMS. They may also be stand-alone products. Virtual classrooms (web conferencing tools) normally are separate third party offerings but may be included as part of a suite of tools. Suites of tools include features of at least two or more of the above categories. While some companies offer just LMS or LCMS systems others offer suites of products, which provide all or most of the features of the other tools. Suites combine several capabilities of learning management--usually two or more of the following: learning management, classroom training management, e-learning management, custom content creation, learning content management, learning object repositories, or virtual classrooms.

How Charismatic Is Your ERP System?

While conducting “research” for another project, I stumbled across Max Weber’s notion of classification of authority, which was news to me, as is most serious Western thought. According to Weber, there are three types of authority: 1. Charismatic 2. Traditional 3. Legal Weber defined charismatic authority as being derived primarily from, well, charisma, or personal magnetism.

As for traditional authority , Weber defined this as a type of authority exemplified by the “handing down,” or inheritance, of power from generation to generation, as in a monarchy.  Legal authority is exemplified by the majority of modern states, and it refers to, you know, the boring kind of leadership, where people are elected peacefully, Read More

Intuitive, Visibility, and Epicor offer .NET Framework-managed code products, but their "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mindset might work against them unless they can prove higher value propositions, such as new, more quickly developed vertical functionality.

How Global Trade Management Can Assuage Your International Trade Worries

Globalization has lost its novelty. For most goods-driven enterprises it has become a matter of fact, just to stay in the game. SaaSy Discussions (Part I)

Much has been said and written lately, on TEC's web site as well as on many other peer sites, about the on-demand deployment model, especially about multi-tenant software as a service (SaaS). The opinions there have ranged from an absolute infatuation with the "technology of the 22nd century" or so (thereby rendering the traditional on-premise model completely passe) to much more reserved and

On the other hand, multi-tenant SaaS subscription-based deployment is appropriate when the application involved is simple, department-oriented, doesn''t need to integrate with internal backbone systems too much, and when there is a requirement for communication with outside the firewall systems and/or data integration. 6 Ways Vendors Are Talking At You Instead of To You

Vendors start by extolling the virtues of their solutions, then they make a bunch of claims about what those solutions will do for your business, and  finally they throw a laundry list of features at you in the hopes that you''ll recognize what you need. But they rarely connect the dots. The problem is that many vendors approach things backwards. They developed all kinds of neat features to (presumably) solve common business problems. So Read More
