Learning Management Suite (LMS)

These are tools for managing, creating, scheduling training or learning in your organization. The terminology varies from vendor to vendor. Learning management systems (LMS) typically help to manage both classroom and on-line learning. They do not normally include content creation or management tools but may in some cases. Some LMSs may manage just classroom or just e-learning rather than both. Some LMSs may also include content authoring and managment and virtual classrooms. Learning content management systems (LCMS) emphasize the management of content for courses/training/learning. In most cases, they include content authoring tools. In some cases, they may also include some of the features of LMSs. Content authoring tools are often provided as part of an LCMS. They may also be stand-alone products. Virtual classrooms (web conferencing tools) normally are separate third party offerings but may be included as part of a suite of tools. Suites of tools include features of at least two or more of the above categories. While some companies offer just LMS or LCMS systems others offer suites of products, which provide all or most of the features of the other tools. Suites combine several capabilities of learning management--usually two or more of the following: learning management, classroom training management, e-learning management, custom content creation, learning content management, learning object repositories, or virtual classrooms.

Quote-to-order: New Ingredients in the Recipe for Success

Quote-to-order (Q2O) systems can address the increasing demand for personalized and customized products. Complex product specification, quoting, and ordering processes—as well as the software applications catering to those processes—can benefit from the use of the Web, collaboration tools, and lean thinking.

While the ordinary, corner-store filter coffee still generally costs $ 0.99 (USD) a pop, a highly customized cup of coffee can easily amount to several bucks (or 50 cents per syllable, anecdotally). Those who prefer an extra-hot, half-decaf, triple-shot, vente , sugar-free, low-fat milk, vanilla, extra-foamy dry latte know all about this. Furthermore, personal comput Read More

It’s About Process (or The Ability to Be Responsive)

Because business processes are often communicated in an ad hoc and unregulated manner, it can be difficult to standardize processes across organizations, particularly larger ones. TEC analyst PJ Jakovljevic takes you on a guided tour through workflow automation—or business process management (BPM)—and shows how these solutions can help ensure standardized adoption of processes, with highlights on several key BPM vendors.

The good use of these solutions would also be towards business processes that involve human interaction, and typically, cross many business units, divisions, departments, entire enterprises or other functionally organized Read More

Navigating Between Service Management Scylla & Charybdis - Part 1

It is no longer breaking news to say that the US and the European Union (EU) are turning from product-based to service economies. SOX and IT

In general, the US Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) requires publicly traded companies to be financially accountable. SOX compliance requires cooperation among many business units—particularly IT, as IT supports SOX compliance by securing and protecting financial data on the network. IT is also required to consistently document this effort. In fact, without IT support, a corporation simply cannot be SOX-compliant.

Examples Of How Some Mid-Market Vendors Might Remain Within The Future Three (Dozen)?

While the ongoing consolidation frenzy is by no means the end of smaller vendors, the number of survivors will certainly be only a few dozen. Amid these ongoing seismic consolidation tremors, smaller application vendors are left with few choices: going private under a wealthy financial backer’s wing that is also committed to invest in the acquired technology, or snatching some prominent mid-market players within its market segment.
