Intel Server Trends
The Intel-based server market is one of the most hotly contested segments in the industry. What are the key trends in this market, and what will they mean to users, vendors, and the products themselves?

HIGH END UNIX SERVER: to provide redundancy and high performance) and Network-Attached Storage (NAS). Currently, the NAS market is owned by Network Appliance, although there are other players such as Procom (recently involved in OEMing to Hewlett-Packard) and Auspex (who appears to be losing significant ground and whom we do not expect to survive independently). 4) Linux vs. NT General Few issues generate more heat and emotion than the operating system battles of the last three years. The server OS market used to be Unix

Intel Small Server Market
Who are the key players in the market segment of Intel small servers? What are the strengths and weaknesses of each, and when is one more appropriate than another?

HIGH END UNIX SERVER: is one of the high priority projects within Compaq, because they know it could realize cost savings approaching 15%. Unfortunately for Compaq, they also knew that the last time they tried it, and the time before that. We believe that this is their last chance - they either get it right (or darn close), or they suffer the consequences. In this case, the consequences are Dell passing them to take the unit sales leadership position. Dell (PowerEdge product line) Strengths: Sales Cycle and Delivery Dell

AMD Server Plans De-Railed
HotRail has discontinued development of the chipset AMD planned to use to break into the multiprocessor server market.

HIGH END UNIX SERVER: microprocessors, it needs the high-margin server market to enhance its long-term viability. They have become profitable by focusing on the PC space, and will probably continue in that vein, but adding servers to the revenue stream means they can generate more cash to help sustain the low-margin PC space. We understand HotRail s desire to jump on the networking/telecom bandwagon, but this indicates someone in AMD may have taken his eye off the ball in the HotRail deal. There are two alternatives regarding

HIGH END UNIX SERVER: Network Appliance NetFiler840 provides high performance, in terms of operations/second and overall response time (as measured by the SPECsfs97 benchmark) and throughput (as measured by NetBench). Unfortunately for those customers wanting the 12TB version , it will not be available until NetApp s software (Data ONTAP) is upgraded, probably in January, 2001. Until then, the upper limit for the 840 is 6 TB.

IBM’s Newest NUMA-Q Server to Handle 64 Intel CPUs
IBM announced its latest NUMA-Q server, the E410. Its ability to house up to 64 Intel CPUs represents a doubling of the “largest” current system, the ES7000 from Unisys, and an eight-times increase over the largest current mainstream Intel offerings from Compaq, Dell, and HP.

Hannon Hill Cascade Server for Content Management » The TEC Blog
never been at the high end of the cost spectrum for the content management market. Hannon Hill’s pricing strategy has evolved somewhat over the years to one of the relatively simple models, repeated among a number of CMS vendors. Rather than base its on-premise licensing costs on number of users, quantity of content, or number of sites, clients pay a license fee based on the number of servers running the system. I’d expect that this is probably attractive to organizations concerned more with the quant

The Importance of Server Robustness in CRM
In today's software frenzy and with the increasing demand for applications that provide maximum return on investment, many companies have failed to focus on subjects like reliability, downtime, and scalability. Since 1991, Touchtone Corporation has devoted its efforts to developing and maintaining a client/server customer relationship management (CRM) application and has equipped more than 750 IBM AS/400 and iSeries customers with its native OS/400 CRM solution.
