Oracle Renders Its PLM OutlinePart One: Event Summary

HOW TO OUTLINE A SUMMARY: major tenet of PLM. However, PLM, which is an overarching concept of guiding the product throughout its entire lifecycle, also entails much more, allowing collaboration amongst many constituents and successful planning and execution of new product development and introduction (NPDI) programs. Namely, a much broader mission of PLM would be to provide a panoramic consistent idea in terms of data and business processes associated with the product from cradle-to-grave to any involved party, such as design

The Many Faces of PLMPart One: Event Summary
Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software solutions, like many of the application suites that have come before it, are a collection of different offerings that serve a common theme and contribute to overlapping value propositions. Like previous application suites, there is strategic value in approaching PLM as a set of inter-related requirements as opposed to just a collection of function-specific requirements. This is a report on the observations from the 2003 Product Development Manager’s Association (PDMA) Conference.

HOW TO OUTLINE A SUMMARY: of these vendors highlighted how their particular solution contributed to the overlapping value propositions that are associated with PLM. SAP , for example, presented a new collaborative application for NPDI in addition to their mySAP PLM solution. The new application, known as SAP xPD, was developed to streamline the process of designing and developing consumer products. Another large ERP vendor, Oracle , used the event to communicate the broad and significant effort they have put into providing PLM

Waking Up to a “New Day” at Infor
Moving away from the relentless acquisitions of the past, Infor is waking up to a brand new day, marked by innovative product development that will change the way work is done. TEC principal analyst P.J. Jakovljevic looks at how the vendor has become a formidable opponent to SAP and Oracle, and examines all the components of Infor10, a new generation of enterprise software that allows the seamless execution of business processes.

HOW TO OUTLINE A SUMMARY: have repeatedly heard of how hard it is to integrate ERP systems with other enterprise solutions. With service-oriented architecture (SOA), we really started to see the issues come up with MDM, SOA governance (transaction integrity), and overlapping or conflicting application rules. For example, inventory allocations in ERP, warehouse management system (WMS), and SCM typically have different logic, and one has to use the least common denominator approach (i.e., with the lowest overlap). Namely, to deal

Smaller Vendors Can Still Provide Relevant Business SystemsPart One: Event Summary
If Relevant Business Systems deliberately wanted to maintain its astute enterprise system as one of the best-kept secrets in the A&D and government contracting manufacturing markets, it has certainly succeeded. However, given a growing horde of viable solutions from larger and more renowned vendors, the company will have to spread the word much more aggressively from now on, while trying to stay outside its bigger competitors'

HOW TO OUTLINE A SUMMARY: For its own development, however, Relevant found J2EE to be far stronger on the server side, where most of the development is done. In addition, J2EE afforded the additional benefit of allowing a developer access to more of the underlying technology. Although .NET s many built-ins decrease the necessity for third-party tools, ample availability of tools and plug-ins for J2EE minimize this advantage. Relevant found .NET to be less robust for complex application development. In addition, the .NET platform

Selecting a PLM Vendor
PLM enterprise applications should not be selected in a vacuum. The needs and requirements of multiple departments and even business partners must be represented in the documented requirements and also on the selection team, which should attempt to examine different functions and methods involved in critical areas.

HOW TO OUTLINE A SUMMARY: next few years, and how it intends to integrate the systems (do not forget that mapping data from one place to another is the most arduous, expensive, and time consuming part of the whole process, and one of the major reasons for the failure of many IT projects) before the buyer even talks to any vendor. The best start for a PLM initiative might be to create a central data repository, further identify the most painful points and to try solving them by leveraging existing PLM initiatives. Be careful to

A Short Guide to Wikis
A Short Guide to Wikis. Get Free Guides Associated with Wikis. What’s all this hype about wikis anyway? According to Gartner’s Hype Cycle, wikis are descending from the crest of a hype wave and coasting into areas where real business value can be recognized. Why? Because their ability to allow corporate users to collaborate on any number of internal projects in an online environment where everyone is given an equal voice is not only empowering, but speeds the process of innovation.

HOW TO OUTLINE A SUMMARY: people worked, not just how they exchanged documents. Wikis, if they live up to their potential, will be much less about changing the way people store and edit documents, than it will be about changing the way innovation takes place. Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia and a former high tech executive, touched on this possibility when he stated that, “Wikis are really a social innovation, not a technological one… [With wikis] People don t have to get permission to do something useful.” From an
