They do it like that in the Balkans -- Select and deploy ERP, I mean (Part I)
The launch of TEC’s blog has somewhat coincided with my visit to Belgrade, Serbia (what used to be Yugoslavia and then Serbia @ Montenegro) for personal reasons

One should, however, note that the former Yugoslavian market, never having been behind the Iron Curtain, had an enviable tradition of both local entrepreneurs and state-owned enterprises developing their own software applications from scratch, even at a time when the term ERP had not even been coined yet. Thus in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the market was dominated by the software products of many domestic companies, such as former (now defunct) SDC-CIP’s Mozaiku

To that end, the acquisition of Group Laurier is a practical business transaction for Infor that creates new opportunity in Canada, adding strong consulting resources in Canada a Read More

J.D. Edwards Saved By SCM, Narrowly, And Only For Now

On March 5, J.D. Edwards reported financial results for Q1 2001. Although the company posted a symbolic profit, the revenue decline begs the question why the company seems to be in a doldrums at the same time when its competitors seem to be upbeat.

We are rapidly bringing customers live on our 100% web-enabled product, OneWorld Xe , with over 80 live customers after just a few months of general availability. For the third consecutive quarter, the company's collaborative supply chain solutions were a driving force in the license revenue (approximately 45% in Q1 2001). J.D. Witty and viral marketing of enterprise applications?

Reading in-flight magazines and running through airports today, we can see advertising for enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, but it is always a serious stuff (albeit well done and to the point), such as "Best run businesses run on SAP" (or so). Nowadays, however, if we go to the virtual online, social-networking world (with viral marketing and advertising at its core), we can even find

For example, did Lawson capture SAP (SEPP in the video) and Oracle (L. Carole in the video) the way the market sees them? Rumor has it that more of this is coming. So, will this kind of messaging work for Lawson and its smaller peers? Or, is this dirty pool that can boomerang on the advertiser? Namely, will the market buy the portrayal of i Read More

i-Lean

Chiron's flagship product, i-Lean, is a logistics modeling and design tool built for warehousing, manufacturing, and retail environments. It employs a pull methodology used in conjunction with a lean inventory management strategy within a distribution or manufacturing facility. This is accomplished by integrating dozens of variables to generate inventory management solutions down to the stock-keeping unit (SKU) level. In addition to deriving operational recommendations, i-Lean lays out the cost components of each solution. The application establishes the foundation for a warehouse management system implementation, and supports long-term inventory management maintenance programs. Using product demand, volumetrics, vendor lead time, material handling costs, and additional variables, i-Lean can make recommendations for material flows, inventory levels, and storage media types. It can also recommend cycle and safety stock levels along with bin sizes, as well as provide slotting recommendations. Annual operating costs can be recommended, and what-if comparisons of the costs and benefits of different inventory management strategies are supported. The results of an analysis run can be used in the Warehouse Design and Slotting Analysis features of i-Lean. These features use demand or actual ordering statistics for each part (such as order frequency or average order size) to recommend how a warehouse should be zoned, and how each part should be stored.

Customers are a company’s true source of value creation, and maintaining their trust is imperative.
