Not All Acquisitions Happen: JDA and QRS Part One: Event and Market Impact

Recent QRS' announcement that it has terminated its agreement to merge with JDA Software, while, in a separate announcement, it stated that it will be acquired by Inovis for a $16 million (USD) higher price, might have more ramifications for JDA than merely an "unrequited love".

JDA FOCUS 2012: A Real-time Cloud to Serve the “Connected Consumer”

It seems JDA Software, a leading supply chain management (SCM) solution vendor, is just a short step away from being able to manage the entire SCM process. Focused on the retail industry, JDA helps retailers satisfy “connected, always-on” consumers. TEC principal analyst P.J. Jakovljevic recaps JDA FOCUS 2012, which highlighted the vendor’s aggressive move into the cloud.

jda dilalrds  from the recently held JDA FOCUS 2012 conference (I could not attend in person, but JDA Software kindly briefed me) was that the leading supply chain management (SCM) software company is aggressively moving to the cloud and managed information technology (IT) services. (To be clear, JDA is not yet moving into managed logistics fulfillment services, unless we are unaware of some partner offering). But this move towards more packaged and hosted offerings and away from the heavily customized projects of the Read More

IBM & ILOG Matrimony: Good for BPM, Uncertain for SCM? -- Part 1

While my two separate blog post series about workflow automation and Business Process Management (BPM) and about the long tails of supply chains were coming to their respective ends, one event that is curiously pertinent to both topics has meanwhile taken place in the market. Namely, at the end of July 2008, IBM acquired ILOG, a specialized software provider with headquarters in France and the

jda dilalrds  Manugistics (now part of JDA Software ) has also embedded ILOG algorithms in several products, most notably in the strategic network design product.  i2 Technologies ( ironically, also soon to be part of JDA Software ) did as well dating back to the Intertrans Logistics Solutions Limited (ITLS) acquisition 10 years ago.  However, for some of the most complex SCM products (i.e., inventory optimization and manufacturing scheduling/sequencing), both Manugistics and i2 have developed proprietary algorithms Read More

A Tale of a Few Good SCM Players - Part 1

Throughout the late 1990s and the mid-2000s, Manhattan Associates was the epitome of a well-managed supply chain management (SCM) software company in terms of market share, growth, profitability, and its products’ capabilities. Simply stated, the company set the industry standard for the supply chain execution (SCE) space and was the envy of its competitors. The

This obscurity was in great part due to JDA's protracted disinterest in engaging in sharing its strategy with the market influencers and with a hodgepodge of point solutions on disparate technologies and with no coherent vision and strategy. For more details on the pre- Manugistics JDA, see TEC’s six-part series from 2004 Read More

Welcome to ERP - Distribution Showdown! Epicor Enterprise vs. JDA Supply Chain Planning & Optimization Suite vs. Pronto Xi

I'm Larry Blitz, editor of Technology Evaluation Centers’ (TEC) Vendor Showdown series. Welcome to our latest: ERP - Distribution Showdown. You’ll notice this one has a broader focus than Showdowns we’ve done in the past. Again we’ll be comparing three vendor solutions head-to-head, but not just on functionality. This time we’ll also look at the industries these solutions support, how well they cover different portions of the mid-market segment, and how their installed bases break out geographically. Of course, functionality is again a key component of this Showdown, broken down into four main distribution areas and 13 subareas. We hope you find today’s Showdown helpful and informative, and invite your comments and questions at showdown@technologyevaluation.com.

Supply Chain Commerce Vendor Manhattan Broadens TMS Reach

Atlanta, Georgia-based Manhattan Associates is a renowned provider of supply chain management (SCM) solutions, and has deep roots in supply chain execution (SCE), and a leading position in the realm of warehouse management systems (WMS). Manhattan has also added many new capabilities to its portfolio throughout the years, such as transportation management (TMS), supply chain planning (SCP), and omni-channel enterprise order management. These capabilities have been “all the rage” and a new growth engine of late, causing Manhattan Associates to rebrand itself as a “supply chain commerce solutions” provider.
