i-Lean

Chiron's flagship product, i-Lean, is a logistics modeling and design tool built for warehousing, manufacturing, and retail environments. It employs a pull methodology used in conjunction with a lean inventory management strategy within a distribution or manufacturing facility. This is accomplished by integrating dozens of variables to generate inventory management solutions down to the stock-keeping unit (SKU) level. In addition to deriving operational recommendations, i-Lean lays out the cost components of each solution. The application establishes the foundation for a warehouse management system implementation, and supports long-term inventory management maintenance programs. Using product demand, volumetrics, vendor lead time, material handling costs, and additional variables, i-Lean can make recommendations for material flows, inventory levels, and storage media types. It can also recommend cycle and safety stock levels along with bin sizes, as well as provide slotting recommendations. Annual operating costs can be recommended, and what-if comparisons of the costs and benefits of different inventory management strategies are supported. The results of an analysis run can be used in the Warehouse Design and Slotting Analysis features of i-Lean. These features use demand or actual ordering statistics for each part (such as order frequency or average order size) to recommend how a warehouse should be zoned, and how each part should be stored.

The Impact of Lean on Consumer Product Manufacturers

While consumer products manufacturers are relatively recent adopters of lean programs, they are already achieving value through a firm commitment to understanding how lean will affect their business processes. Those who are eager to begin the lean journey, however, must learn how to prioritize the metrics that matter, and frequently measure them in order to monitor the effectiveness of the program. Discover why it works.

Lean Manufacturing: Reaping the Rewards of Lean through Response Management

For years, manufacturers have been driven by sales forecasts and the need to maximize production efficiency at every level of operation. But in order to be successful, manufacturers must look toward adopting a lean mentality. While lean techniques are more easily applied to some manufacturing styles than others, new software tools are now able to deliver the benefits of lean to both high-mix and low-volume operations.

lean implementation  should companies pursue it? Lean manufacturing involves identifying and eliminating non-value-adding activities in design, production, supply chain management, and order processing by developing a Future State Implementation Plan. The idea of lean is founded on the following principles: Specify value in the eyes of the customer Identify the value stream and eliminate waste Make value flow at the pull of the customer Involve and empower employees Continuously improve in pursuit of perfection A Lean Primer Read More

Enhancing Lean Practices: Lean Adoption in the Industrial Machinery and Components Industry

Customer churn rates are higher than ever: although businesses say they are devoted to loyalty, their management systems and budgets do not support that claim. But in a landscape of similar products, cutting down on defection—or churn—is vital. There are in fact four steps to improving loyalty and retention which, if focused on the appropriate customers, will improve profitability.

lean implementation  will need to scale Lean processes throughout the supply chain to enhance flexibility. To become truly agile and responsive, IM&C companies will need to think about technology infrastructures that will unite the plant with the supply chain at large to facilitate the design and implementation of customer-focused business processes. Input/Output StreamGuard Implementation and Uses

Ideally, your service area network (SAN) permits an uninterrupted flow of data all the time. Unfortunately, with changes to the SAN fabric—when a server comes online, or when storage ports are added—the attendant tape backups might cause a serious lapse in the flow of data. However, an interoperable solution can keep registered state change notifications (RSCNs) from making your SAN go haywire.

Front-office Lean-Taking Lean Manufacturing Beyond the Shop Floor

Lean manufacturing practices are employed to some degree on almost every manufacturing floor, but many companies aren't realizing the real benefits of lean by bringing lean to their front-office operations. Here are a few tips on lean office operations.

lean implementation  office Lean-Taking Lean Manufacturing Beyond the Shop Floor Originally published - June 25, 2007 It would be hard to find a successful manufacturer anywhere in the world that is not using some elements of lean manufacturing to streamline its operation. Some companies have formal lean programs, employing individuals with black belts in Six Sigma (a system of practices for measuring defects and improving quality, and a methodology to reduce defect levels, with Black Belts being the professionals who Read More

LEAN OPINION POLL: Are Lean Concepts and ERP Systems Still Antagonists?

It’s been many years since this question of compatibility between lean practices and enterprise resource planning (ERP) was rigorously discussed and brought many controversial and opposite opinions to the table. Can these two work well together, or do they have no place in each other’s space? It seems like even after all this time—and discussion—the jury is still out the final verdict. The answer
