Oracle Product Showdown!
I'm Larry Blitz, editor of Technology Evaluation Centers’ (TEC) Vendor Showdown series. Today’s Vendor Showdown is an encore presentation of a Showdown that was originally published last September. It compares two popular Oracle enterprise solutions—JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and E-Business Suite—head to head.

MARKET SHARE OF DB2 VERSUS ORACLE: solutions available in the marketplace today. Oracle acquired JD Edwards through its purchase of PeopleSoft in 2004, while E-Business Suite is a collection of enterprise applications developed by Oracle itself. Both products are enterprise solutions, both have large installed bases, and both are marketed and supported by Oracle. So what are the differences between them? If your organization is considering an Oracle enterprise solution, which is the better choice? This Vendor Showdown will help you find

Oracle Loses Again
SAP AG has chosen SQL Server 7.0 as its strategic database for the Windows platform. The companies also will cooperate to make the Windows 2000 OS available as a platform choice for customers wishing to implement mySAP.com solutions. On the heels of the agreement to use IBM DB2 as a preferred backend database, Oracle continues to lose market share as a database in the ERP arena.

MARKET SHARE OF DB2 VERSUS ORACLE: Developer Group vice president. Market Impact On the heels of the defection by SAP to IBM for their strategic database platform, this announcement is bound to hurt Oracle in the marketplace (See TEC News Analysis article: Oracle gets SAP ed by IBM December 8th, 1999) Although Oracle 8i will continue to be a strategic choice for database platforms, their competition in the ERP market space continues to hurt them. Other ERP and CRM vendors increasingly perceive Oracle as a competitor and not a

Oracle Makes A U-Turn At The All Things To All People Exit
Oracle has been trying hard for some time to find a magic formula to revive its declining applications revenue. Abandoning its isolationist stance and opening the door to integration of third-party products while still targeting the lower end of the market with the simplicity tune might be the hit.

MARKET SHARE OF DB2 VERSUS ORACLE: fixes will not work. Market Impact The news should be no big surprise considering Oracle s actions in the past. Despite its inclination to thrive on a moderate amount of controversy and to fly a number of trial balloons, Oracle, nevertheless, has been a pragmatic company, and it has often modified its strategy and tried another tack, with more or less candidness about it. Departing from the controversial processor power unit pricing or from its initial insistence on hosting servers for its customers are

Global versus Local Channel Approach, Who Will Win?
There is a clear distinction between the market dynamics within the respective MBS and Sage/Best channels.

In the UK and the Southern Hemisphere it has been offering the Line 50, Line 100, Line 200, and Line 500 products, while in France it would be Ciel , and elsewhere in Europe, other

Reporting Tools versus Business Intelligence
Reporting has been significant to businesses by providing a platform for users to get immediate access to business information via using simple analysis. However, business intelligence (BI) caters to strategic, tactical, and operational needs, providing a platform for comprehensive performance management. Compare standard reports and BI in terms of functionality, capability, architecture, process, and management benefits.

EAM Versus CMMS: What s Right for Your Company? Part One
As companies continue to look for more areas from which to squeeze out revenues and reduce expenses, enterprise asset management (EAM) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) software continue to receive good press as the systems providing an answer--and with justification. But what software makes the most sense for your company and from which providers--EAM/CMMS best-of-breed incumbents or enterprise resource planning (ERP)

More Vendors Bail on Oracle in Favor of IBM
Oracle’s focus on software application markets is impacting its Database business. Recently SAP AG and Siebel Systems, i2 Technologies, Inc., and PeopleSoft have also chosen IBM’s DB2 Universal Database as their preferred database for developing current and future applications, and as their preferred backend database for customer deployment. In addition, IFS AB, one of the top 10 ERP vendors, which was previously Oracle-centric, has announced an agreement with IBM to add DB2 support.

MARKET SHARE OF DB2 VERSUS ORACLE: support to IFS applications. Market Impact Oracle s focus on competing in the areas of enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management, supply chain management, financials, and many others, is hurting their database sales. Their database sales growth pales in comparison to the growth in their applications areas, and these vendor defections are a strong indicator as to why. (For more information about the SAP/Siebel defections, see Oracle Gets SAP ed by IBM and Oracle Loses Again .) Orac

Oracle Proud To Be Number Two
Being number two in the advanced planning and scheduling (APS) software market is becoming a coveted prize for old guard ERP vendors.

MARKET SHARE OF DB2 VERSUS ORACLE: term growth in SCM market share only if Oracle APS proves to be a viable alternative to what the best-of-breeds can offer. In spite of the late entry and questionable competence of APS, Oracle presents an immediate threat to i2, Manugistics and other SCM vendors. Oracle has outstanding ERP market position, excellent financial standing, and a strong direct sales force. The big question will be whether its account executives will find selling Oracle APS easier than i2 RHYTHM or software from one of its
